<p>A former chief of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has returned N66 million to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The Air Marshal had been placed under house arrest, following suspicions of Implication in the $2.1 billion arms deal scandal. 90 million naira had been traced to him,</p>
<p>The AM who is facing a charge of misappropriating 90 million naira was released following his refunding the sum of N66 million to EFCC. He was subsequently, released from detention on a mandate to go and source the balance due. According to an an agency source, it does not mean he is completely exonerated, simply granted conditional release as part of a plea bargain.</p>
<p>Other officers being detained for similar charges who failed to take advantage of the terms the plea agreement on offer, remain in detention. Some however, have turned in property such as expensive automobiles and and other personal valuables.</p>
<p>An expansion of the scope of the investigation had led to further arrests and detention including an Air Commodore, said to have benefited from the arms deal and owns property in Dubai, Kaduna and Abuja<br />
Furthermore, an Air Vice Marshal said to be the leader of the team that went to buy aircraft with incomplete parts and also inflated the price from $6million to over $30million has been arrested. A fallout of the current investigation is the removal of some officers including Air Officers Commanding and Principal Staff officers implicated in the arms deal last week Thursday.<br />
The EFCC had earlier uncovererd N17.5 billion in the accounts of wives of three airforce chiefs, among them Mrs. Lara Amosu, wife of former Chief of the Air Staff , AM Amosu. She was questioned and granted administrative bail and asked to report back as needed in the course of the investigations.</p>
