An aspiring rapper was killed and four others injured – including one woman who was shot twice in the groin – while filming a music video about guns in a Chicago park at around 2am Tuesday.
The video, for a song called ‘Two Techs and a 50 Shot’ – a reference to guns – was to feature a ‘party scene’ filmed in Foster Park, but the day’s filming ended badly when an unknown suspect or suspects opened fire, killing Damond Dawson.
Local rapper Foreign Lyfe said the gunman approached from behind the camera.
‘We turned around and look back again, quick as we looked back, started shooting,’ the rapper told ABC 7. ‘Shots coming from everywhere.’

Foreign Lyfe told NBC 5 he didn’t get a good look at the shooters. ‘The camera was on me and the shooting started from behind,’ he said. ‘So at that point everybody ran, scattered, going their separate ways.’
Damond Dawson, a 23-year-old aspiring rapper known as ‘Thugga,’ was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene. Foreign Lyfe told NBC that Dawson was ‘like a brother’ to him.
Four others were injured in the shooting. A 19-year-old woman was taken to hospital in an ambulance with two gunshot wounds to the groin; three other men took themselves to hospital. Of them, a 20-year-old had been shot nine times in the leg and shoulder, a 25-year-old had a graze wound to the leg and an 18-year-old had a graze wound to the back. Dawson’s aunt, Angela Tate, 44, told ABC, ‘I always told my kids and my sons and everybody. Stay out of Foster Park because they’re shooting people. You don’t need to be up there.’
Exactly how many shooters were on the scene is not currently certain, but Tate told The Chicago Tribune there were two shooters and that it was ‘Basically like an ambush,’ with ‘One coming west of the park and one coming south.’
Tate said that Dawson was a high-school dropout but not involved in gangs, and described him as ‘a good guy who would do anything for you,’according to DNAinfo.
Michael Simmons, a crisis responder from Chicago Survivors told NBC that this kind of call has become routine.
‘Unfortunately I was not surprised’, he said. ‘The beat goes on and unfortunately it’s the same old sad song. We really didn’t get a decline this winter.
‘In fact, the homicides spiked, so when I got the call tonight it was, unfortunately it was business as usual.’
The video and camera from the music video were turned over to police, who have yet to identify the suspect.
