<p>A California court has sentenced a Fresno man to 1,503 years in prison incest and sexual assault of a minor.<br />
Forty-one-year-old Rene Lopez was convicted of raping his teenage daughter, two or three times a week , over a four-year period. Lopez who&#8217;s daughter remains unnamed to protect her identify, was sentenced Friday to the longest-known prison sentence in Fresno Superior Court history.<br />
Judge Edward Sarkisian Jr, who announced the sentence, called him a &#8216;serious danger to society&#8217; and noted that he had never shown remorse and has blamed his daughter for his predicament.<br />
The prosecutor ,Nicole Galstan, told the court that the victim was first sexually abused by a family friend, but instead of protecting her, her father turned her into &#8216;a piece of property,&#8217;<br />
The victim was raped two to three times a week from May 2009 to May 2013, when the girl got the courage to leave him, Galstan said. Rene Lopez, sentenced to 1,503 years in prison for sustained rape and incest<br />
Before his preliminary hearing, Lopez turned down the offer of two pleas deals with prosecutors offering a 13 year jail term if the defendant admitted his guilt.<br />
In September , a jury found him guilty of 186 felony counts of sexual assault, including dozens of counts of rape of a minor.</p>

<h6><strong>Lopez maintains he did nothing wrong and did get a fair tria.</strong></h6>
<p>In her testimony, the victim, now 23, told the court:<br />
&#8216;When my father abused me, I was young. I had no power, no voice. I was defenseless,&#8217; said the daughter, who was 14 when the assault began. She also told the judge that her father never has shown remorse for her pain and suffering.<br />
The defendant received the record-setting sentence after turning down the last plea deal which offered 22 years in prison if he admitted his guilt. He had declined that offer, saying he should be released from jail for the time he already had served, the prosecutor told the court.<br />
Before handing the sentence, Judge Sarkisian said: &#8216;He ruined her teenage years and made her feel like it was her fault.&#8217; and when she got pregnant from her father, he paid for the abortion, the judge said. The judge praised the victim&#8217;s courage in the pursuit of justice: “You are a courageous young woman.”<br />
Lopez, who elected not to testify in his trial, wrote in a letter to the judge, claiming he did not get a fair trial and that his daughter lied on the witness stand. “It’s hearsay,” he wrote in his statement.<br />
But Sarkisian told him that he received a fair trial and that the evidence was overwhelming.<br />
In addition to the victim’s testimony, jurors heard entries from her diary in which she chronicled her father’s crimes against her, Galstan said.<br />
In addition to the prison sentence, Sarkisian said Lopez will have to register as a sex offender.</p>
