The charge can result in a life sentence, however a plea deal struck between the teacher&#8217;s legal team and prosecutors ensures her sentencing will be capped at 30 years.</p>

<p>She taught eighth grade students English at the Houston’s Stovall Middle School, and met the teen at summer school in 2015, before exchanging phone numbers.<br />
Vera went to his house, picked him up and they drove around, which is when they first kissed, according to court documents.<br />
The following day she went back to his home and the pair had sex for the first time, while his parents were out.</p>

<p>Vera told Aldine Independent School District Police she had sex with the teen “on almost a daily basis at her home.”<br />
The student allegedly slept at her house, after which she drove him back home in the morning so he could catch the bus to school.<br />
It was in January this year she fell pregnant, and according to documents the teen&#8217;s parents were supportive and excited about her having a baby with their son.<br />
However she had an abortion when the Texas Child Protective Services officials showed up at the school where she worked in February to ask her about the relationship.</p>

<div class="article__credit">Initially Vera denied she had done anything wrong &#8211; but cops discovered evidence of their relationship on her phone.</div>
<p>Police said they seized Vera’s phone and had it searched forensically. They found “many messages” between the student and Vera, according to court documents.<br />
Detectives interviewed the student and he “disclosed a sexual relationship with [Vera],” and “was able to identify the parts of the body and defined sex as putting his penis inside [Vera’s] vagina.”<br />
She then revealed that the boy&#8217;s parents were accepting of their relationship and she was even invited to family gatherings after that point,” investigators said in court documents. “(Vera) stated that her relationship with (the victim) grew and they continued to have sex and spend time together.”Vera also told investigators the boy’s family was told of the pregnancy and were “very supportive and excited about the baby.”<br />
Child Protective Services stepped in to investigate the victim’s parents because of their support of the relationship,<br />
The mother of a young daughter and herself the daughter of a former Houston police officer faces up to 30 years in jail. She will be sentenced in January.</p>
