<h6><strong>Rachel&#8217;s parents plead for any information that could lead to locating their daughter, shortly after her disappearance</strong></h6>
<p>A North Carolina woman who went missing as a teenager five years ago is reportedly alive and well and living in Columbus, Ohio. Rachel Natacha Owens has been missing for 5 years. On May 5, 2011, she was last spotted getting off the school bus at South Brunswick High School in Boiling Spring Lakes, North Carolina.<br />
Surveillance video on the school&#8217;s campus captured Rachel entering a small, dark-colored car with allegedly with South Carolina license plates. The teenager did not make contact since her disappearance, with either friends or family.<br />
Since she ran away, Rachel Owens has not reached out to her parents or siblings. According to reports, it was her intention to remain undetected.<br />
Owens was 15 years old the last time she was seen in her hometown of Boiling Spring Lakes. Video surveillance footage show her getting off a South Brunswick High School bus and getting into an unidentified vehicle.<br />
The FBI released a missing persons report on the teen, offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to her return.</p>

<p>However, at the time of her disappearance in 2011, it was revealed that it wasn’t the first time she had run away, and the initial speculation was that she had been smuggled across the border into Mexico by a trafficking ring.<br />
A year earlier, in June 2010 Rachel, then 14, was picked up after a school dance by a 21-year-old man, Santos Pacheco-Sarmiento. The following evening, sheriff’s deputies looking for Sarmiento’s vehicle pulled him over and found Rachel in the car.<br />
She was returned to her family while Sarmiento later pled guilty to criminal charges related to the case . He was sentenced to probation. He was again, flagged as a person of interest” in Rachel’s latest disappearance, but investigators were unable to locate him or his family.</p>

The theory that Rachel was in Mexico gained credence when her sister showed investigators a story she wrote before she left, in which she expressed a desire to travel to that country. Her desire to go Mexican was confirmed by her friends who also told authorities that they had heard she was in Mexico. But nobody has actually heard from her.<br />
Simpson said Rachel’s interest in Mexico came from her interest and love for the Hispanic community. She dyed her hair dark and liked to wear culturally inspired clothing. She also went by the name “Raquel.”<br />
Owens, now 21, is said to have gone to “great lengths” to hide her whereabouts. She had even assumed a false identity and date of birth when found by police.<br />
The Sheriff’s Office released a press statement on Friday announcing, “There is no foul play in Rachel’s disappearance.”<br />
“No charges will be pursued, at this time,” a spokeswoman from the department wrote.</p>
