<article id="ra-body">A Pittsburgh woman has been jailed on charges she collected state welfare benefits for three children who don&#8217;t exist, including a period when she was living outside Pennsylvania.</article>
<article>Sabrina Strothers, 23, who is charged with accepting more than $100,000 in welfare benefits for three children who were never born, surrendered Monday to police on charges of theft, forgery and welfare fraud, according to a police affidavit.</article>

<p class="p1">Pennsylvania authorities said at some point payments were made to Strothers while she continued to live in Maryland. Investigators discovered she had been working for a health services company in Baltimore but had misstated her residence in order to receive benefits from Pennsylvania.<br />
Investigators from the Allegheny County Court District Attorney&#8217;s Office said that Strothers was pregnant with triplets in 2008, but that the babies were never born.</p>

<p>Still, she reported that three children named Thomas, Tomalyia and Tyreik Wilson were born on Nov. 20, 2008, and she been collecting benefits for them until March, when her cousin alerted authorities.<br />
Strothers allegedly, received $89,453 in medical assistance funds, $37,269 in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits and $2,073 in Temporary Assistance for Needy Families grants — totaling $128,795 of illegal benefits from Pennsylvania&#8217;s Department of Human Services.<br />
In response to questions about the children&#8217;s whereabouts, &#8220;they were not in her household, but were living with their father in Atlanta, Georgia,&#8221;detectives said Strothers told them.<br />
Social security numbers used to claim benefits for the children in fact belonged to people born in 1887, 1945 and 1960.<br />
Strothers is scheduled for an evidentiary hearing in Allegheny County Court on Dec. 22.</p>
