Police charged Steven Sampson, 41, with making a false written statement and filing a false report on Wednesday.
Sampson initially told police he pulled over at the corner of Bolton and Randall Aves., in Clason Point at about 2 a.m. to rearrange his gifts when a group of men confronted him, police sources said.
Steven Sampson, 41, a 17-year veteran EMT, told police and reporters he battled four men who stole nearly $3,000 in Christmas gifts from him at the corner of Bolton and Randall Aves. in Clason Pt. early Christmas morning. However, after the story of violent robbery on Christmas by a group of men who called him “cracker” unraveled, Sampson has been suspended from his job and faces further investigation.
On Wednesday, police charged him with making a false written statement and filing a false report. He received a desk appearance ticket, and faces further scrutiny from the Bronx District Attorney’s Public Integrity Bureau, officials said.
Apparently Sampson, who was stabbed in the shoulder, made up the story of being assaulted and robbed at a Christmas party as a cover story because he was there with a woman other than his wife.
A police spokesman said Sampson changed his account of what happened more than once and, when confronted with the contradictions, he recanted his story completely. He was issued a desk appearance ticket by police.
