<p>A former Utah teacher convicted of having sexual relationships with three high-school students told a parole board Tuesday her low self-esteem was the reason for her inappropriate behavior.The tearful Brianne Altice said she hopes her victims realize she&#8217;s “extremely remorseful” and that they can continue with their lives after her “poor decisions,” according to the <a href="http://www.sltrib.com/news/4857681-155/utah-teacher-who-had-sex-with">Salt Lake Tribune</a>.<br />
A district court convicted the 37-year-old in 2015 with three counts of sex abuse and sentenced her to at least two years and up to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty.<br />
&#8220;I had extreme self-esteem issues and they said things that made me feel good about myself,&#8221; Altice said. “I just started to justify it all, making myself believe it was OK.”</p>

<p>Altice had sexual relationships with a 16-year-old, and two 17-year-old students from January to September 2013, prosecutors said.<br />
in her latest defense the former teacher, explains that the boys confided in her about their problems. However she acknowledged responsibility for her own actions and added that she’s been in therapy while in prison and agreed to undergo sex-offender treatment. She has also vowed to never teach again.<br />
One of the victim&#8217;s parents claimed the school administration should have known about Altice’s inappropriate behavior. But school officials said they were not aware of the allegations at the time.</p>

<p>The former teacher flirted with the boys, including the plaintiff&#8217;s son, hugged and passed notes around class, the parents said. She had sexual relationships with the boys for months, going on picnics and dates with the students.<br />
Altice Brianne who has been behind bars for the past year is up for her first parole hearing this month.</p>

<p>In april last year Altice in a hand written letter defended herself from behind bars and said she had no &#8220;evil or malicious intent&#8221; by having sex with three high school students.<br />
Altice&#8217;s handwritten letter addressed a lawsuit filed by one of the victim&#8217;s parents in December 2015, slamming their parenting for failing to attend her parent-teacher meetings at Davis High School during the 2012 &#8211; 2013 school year.<br />
Members of the Utah Board of Pardon will vote over the next month on a release date or another parole hearing.</p>
