<p>An 18-year-old woman from New York was hit with charges after authorities say she falsely accused two Connecticut football players of rape.Nikki Yovino had claimed she was pulled into a bathroom by two Sacred Heart students during a football party in Bridgeport.<br />
However, a student overheard Yovino telling the two of them that she wanted to have sex with them, according to an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by the newspaper.</p>

&#8220;She admitted that she made up the allegation of sexual assault against [the football players] because it was the first thing that came to mind and she didn’t want to lose [another male student] as a friend and potential boyfriend,&#8221; read the affidavit obtained by the newspaper. &#8220;She stated that she believed when [the other male student] heard the allegation it would make him angry and sympathetic to her.&#8221;<br />
Yovino, who is from South Setauket, N.Y., was charged with falsely reporting an incident and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.</p>

<p>The <a href="http://www.ctpost.com/local/article/Police-Football-players-falsely-accused-of-rape-10950934.php" target="_blank"> Connecticut Post</a> quotes Yovino&#8217; attorney, Mark Sherman as saying in a statement that he expects his client to plead not guilty at her arraignment on March 3. He said he has not been provided the police reports and video footage.<br />
&#8220;The details of what happened here will come out at the appropriate time during the court process,&#8221; he said in the statement.<br />
One of the football players has now been allowed readmission to the school without his scholarship, according to the Connecticut Post. He is no longer on the team.</p>
