<article id="ra-body">An Ohio man and his partner both overdosed on heroin with the children present, in different locations. Police say Nathan Carroll, 29, was in his car with an infant while 24-year-old Samantha Schigel was nearby in their Lorain home with the other children on Monday when they OD&#8217;ed, cops said.<br />
Carroll was found in the vehicle after driving off the road and he &#8220;showed commonly recognized signs of a heroin or opiate overdose,&#8221; cops said. He had nearly a struck a tree, according to Lorain cops.<br />
When speaking with Carroll, an officer noted his &#8220;drowsy demeanor&#8221; and &#8220;droopy&#8221; eyelids. They gave him naloxone and transported him to a hospital. The child was unharmed.<br />
Following up, officers went o the couple&#8217;s home to advise Schigel to come to the scene. A young girl answered the door and said her mother was upstairs.<br />
The child said &#8220;mommy was sleeping and they could not wake her up,&#8221; the officer reported: &#8220;I then observed the female later identified as Samantha Schigel at the top of the stairwell begin swaying,&#8221; a Lorain officer wrote in the police report. &#8220;I assisted the female downstairs to speak with her and could immediately tell that she was under the influence of a narcotic. Her pupils were the size of needle points and she could barely stand.&#8221;</p>

<p>Schigel who was hospitalized as well, later told officers that they &#8220;had been snorting a substance they believed to be heroin&#8221; when Carroll decided to go get some food.<br />
&#8220;I don&#8217;t remember passing out,&#8221; she said<br />
Three kids involved in the incidents were not Carroll&#8217;s kids, according to police. A total of five children were released into the custody of two different grandparents.<br />
Carroll was hit with numerous charges, including endangering children, driving under revocation or suspension, and operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Schigel was busted for endangering children.</p>
