striking him in the in torso and back&comma; according to Chicago police&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;The SUV crashed&comma; and the suspects managed to flee the scene&comma; police said&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;Belmont was shot multiple times&comma; and he died after collapsing in the street&comma; police said&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;Belmont was being held on &dollar;100&comma;000 bail in a separate robbery case&period; He was released after a friend posted his bail Monday&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;Belmont was charged with murder and robbery in the 2015 shooting death of 40-year-old Sorrell Marshall along with two other men&comma; 23-year-old Terrence Hogans and 21-year-old Khalil Powell&comma; in a pair of robberies that happened within an hour of each other early on May 1&comma; 2015&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;Hogans shot one of the victims in their first alleged robbery&comma;Cook County prosecutors said&period; That victim&comma; 40-year-old North Side man Sorrell Marshall&comma; died three weeks later of complications from his gunshot wounds&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;The trio robbed two more people an hour later in the first block of East 21st Street&comma; but police were able to track them down using a mobile tracking application on a cellphone they had stolen from a victim&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;As officers approached&comma; Hogans got out of the vehicle with a handgun in his waistband and lunged at one of the officers with a forearm to the chest&comma; and Khalil Powell&period; Both were charged with Belmont in the 2015  robberies  <&sol;strong><&sol;h6>&NewLine;<p>Kamari Belmont himself was initially charged with attempted murder&comma; and the charges were upgraded to murder a year later&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;Prosecutors dropped the murder charges against Belmont Jan&period; 27&comma; after waiting too long to put him on trial&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;A state statute stipulates that&comma; after agreed upon continuances&comma; a person accused of a crime who is still in custody must be brought to trial 120 days after making a demand&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;Court records however&comma; show that Belmont made a demand for trial on April 15&comma; 2016&period; Between May 2015 and January 2017&comma; his attorneys and prosecutors agreed to at least 12 case continuances&comma; records show&period;Chicago authorities did not explain the delay in filing charges&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;After successfully getting charges in the murder case dropped&comma; a judge set bond for Belmont at &dollar;100&comma;000 in the second robbery case&period; He  was released Monday night after his friend posted the bond&period; Shortly after he was fatally shot&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;Michael Johnson&comma; Belmont’s attorney&comma; said he doesn’t believe his client’s death was gang-related&comma; but always encouraged him to get out of the neighborhood upon his jail release&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;I told him&comma;
