<article id="ra-body">A young woman from Alabama was kidnapped at gun point by a total stranger on Tuesday, but she managed to escape her captor by jumping out of the trunk of a moving car.<br />
speaking on NBC&#8217;s morning show on Monday, Brittany Diggs explained how she was able to escape her abductor by jumping from the trunk of the moving car.<br />
Diggs said she used the light on her insulin pump to find the latch that let her loose.<br />
“I just got the bright idea to use my insulin pump light, which is not a bright light, but it was bright enough to see,” Brittany Diggs, 25, told <a href="http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/kidnap-victim-brittany-diggs-insulin-pump-aided-trunk-escape-n735586" target="_blank">“Today”</a> Monday morning about her great escape.<br />
“So I had to put it right on top of it to look and see for the latch.”</article>

<strong>Kidnapping victim Brittany Diggs escapes by jumping out of moving car&#8217;s trunk</strong></h6>
<p>Diggs said she was walking to her apartment in Birmingham, Ala., around 11:40 p.m.on Tuesday when a man she didn’t know threatened her with a gun and demanded money. When she explained she had none, he threatened to kill her and forced her into the trunk of a black Nissan Altima, reports <a href="http://www.al.com/news/birmingham/index.ssf/2017/03/woman_escapes_attempted_kidnap.html" target="_blank">AL.com</a>.<br />
He also took her cell phone and wallet.<br />
The suspect then drove to a nearby gas station and convenience store where the woman was able to open the trunk and escape.<br />
Surveillance cameras in the Gas Land’s parking lot captured the harrowing moment Diggs leapt out of the trunk and then rolled across the hard ground just as car began to pull out.</p>

<p>“The whole time he&#8217;s driving, he&#8217;s, like, just, he&#8217;s yelling at me from the front seat, &#8216;You&#8217;re lying. I know you have something. Give me your money,&#8217;” Diggs recalled.<br />
Fortunate to be alive because she kept her wits about her, the kidnap victim came to national attention after surveillance footage at a gas station caught her leaping from the trunk of the kidnapper&#8217;s dark Nissan Altima, and rolling onto the pavement as he drove away.<br />
Diggs was lucky to escape with only minor injuries.</p>

<p>Diggs said she saw her chance as her captor tried to get cash from the station&#8217;s ATM.<br />
“I&#8217;m holding the latch like this, waiting for him to get back in the car,” she told “Today.”<br />
“He gets in, he&#8217;s yelling &#8230; and I feel the car reversing, and he&#8217;s pulling out pretty fast, so I&#8217;m, like, &#8216;Oh shoot — I better get out of here.”<br />
The suspect remains unknown and is still at large.</p>
