<div class="body-text">A Cook County judge was killed and a woman wounded in a related shooting in the West Chesterfield neighborhood of Chicago&#8217;s South Side on Monday morning.<br />
Associate Judge Raymond Myles, 66, and a woman were found shot outside his home in the 9400-block of Forest Avenue at about 4:51 a.m., police said.<br />
The 52-year-old woman whom cops said was a close associate of the judge, reportedly stepped outside the home on her way to work when she was confronted by someone. After exchanging words, she was shot in the leg.<br />
Myles, who has presided over some high profile cases in the county&#8217;s criminal division, came outside after hearing the commotion, got into a heated argument with the gunman and was shot multiple times. He was transported to Christ Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The female victim was also transported to Christ Hospital and is expected to be ok.<br />
Neighbor Allison Rogers says she heard the gunshots.<br />
&#8220;About 5:30 this morning, me and my husband were getting up for the day and we heard two loud gunshots. We immediately ran out it in the front and we see police coming,&#8221; she said.</div>

<div class="body-text">Police said that they are making progress in their investigation, reviewing surveillance video, but no one is in custody. They have not ruled out robbery as a motive, but don&#8217;t know if anything was taken.<br />
The FBI is offering a $25,000 for information leading to the arrest of the gunman.<br />
Family members showed up to the scene overcome by grief hearing the news from police.<br />
&#8220;You don&#8217;t hear this everyday like some neighborhoods. Every day you hear shootings, shootings, shootings, but not in this particular area,&#8221; said neighbor John Means.<br />
Myles was the judge who ordered William Balfour to be held without bond. Balfour was later convicted and sentenced to life behind bars for murdering three members of actress and singer Jennifer Hudson&#8217;s family.<br />
he also presided over the trial of two suspects in the Brown&#8217;s Chicken Massacre in Palatine in 2002.<br />
Pertinently, judge Myles was attacked after a fender bender on the South Side as he was about to take photographs of the accident scene. Before fleeing the scene. the other driver punched the judge in the face breaking his nose, inflicting injuries that required reconstructive surgery<br />
Myles&#8217; attacker was eventually arrested 10 months later. 22-year-old Deandre Hudson is still awaiting trial.<br />
&#8220;I join all of the judges today in the Circuit Court of Cook County in expressing our sadness regarding the tragic passing of our colleague and friend, Associate Judge Raymond Myles. I offer my deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues in the Criminal Division,&#8221; said Timothy Evans, Chief Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County, in a statement.<br />
&#8220;Judge Myles joined the court in October 1999 when the Illinois Supreme Court appointed him to fill a vacancy that he held for just over a year. The circuit judges appointed him as an associate judge in June 2001, and he has served in the Criminal Division since March 2009.&#8221;<br />
&#8220;Judge Myles joined the bench with a wealth of experience in law and extensive service to the community. I have always known Judge Myles to be focused and determined in the pursuit of justice, and his conduct earned him the confidence and respect of the people who appeared before him.&#8221;<br />
&#8220;All of our colleagues at the Leighton Criminal Court Building will miss Judge Myles, who they came to know for his kindness and his impartial administration of justice.&#8221;</p>
