<article id="ra-body">A Queens Supreme Court heard a chilling confession from<a href="http://konniemoments.com/2017/02/05/police-arrest-chanel-lewis-in-slaying-of-jogger-karina-vetrano-after-cops-link-him-to-dna-found-on-victims-body-and-phone/"> accused killer Chanel Lewis </a>detailing the homicidal rage that surged through his veins as he stood last August on a Howard Beach running path.<br />
The fiasco culminated in an innocent jogger Karina Vetrano, unarmed and alone, getting brutally beaten and killed for no reason other than the defendant&#8217;s murderous mid-day meltdown. Lewis made the admission to police after his Feb. 2 arrest.<br />
Suspect, Chanel Lewis who has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia in the past lived with his mother Veta Lewis in a housing project in East New York, Brooklyn, a neighborhood just west of Howard Beach,” where Karina Vetrano was strangled to death.</p>

<p>The 20-year-old, unemployed Lewis <a href="https://www.dnainfo.com/new-york/20170206/east-new-york/karina-vetrano-murder-arrest-suspect-innocent" target="_blank">allegedly confessed</a> that he grew angry because his neighbors were playing loud music and went to the park, where he spotted Karina jogging and took his anger out on her: “[I] punched her in the face, knocking her down and then punched her five more times, he told investigators. Once she was unconscious, Lewis told investigators, he dragged her off the path into the weeds” .<br />
“She was running toward me and I just lost it,” Lewis told police. “She didn’t do anything. I was just mad at that time. I beat her to let my emotions out &#8230;<br />
“I fought with her for five minutes. She scratched my face. I hit her about five times and I knocked her out. Her teeth broke. I got madder and madder and I strangled her &#8230; her pants came off as I dragged her.”<br />

The suspect then said to sent an apology to his mother through an NYPD detective, “Tell my mom that I’m sorry.”<br />
Six of these damning statements made by the jogging path killer were released Tuesday as the 20-year-old Lewis entered a not-guilty plea to charges of murder and sexual abuse in the killing of Karina Vetrano, 30.</p>

<p>Some of the admissions were made on a videotaped interview, while others were given orally to prosecutors and detectives.<br />
Even with these confessions reportedly videotaped by police, his family especially his sister, Theresa Forbes who has accused police of railroading her brother because he is black. Lewis has recanted to enter his not guilty plea.<br />
On the other side is the victim&#8217;s family. Cathy Vetrano described her daughter&#8217;s killer as “A savage murderer,” confronting him shortly after he was “formally charged with murder in the 2nd degree” on February 5.<br />
Lewis wore an orange prison jumpsuit for the hearing where Vetrano’s parents, family and friends sat on one side of the courtroom and her accused killer’s supporters filled the other side.<br />
Speaking of his indignation when the sound of loud music interrupted his afternoon reverie on Aug. 2, 2016, Lewis told police: “My house was quiet,” Lewis said. “And then a man came around. He played music and he brought around a lot of his friends. I didn’t like that stuff &#8230; Sometimes I would go to Howard Beach.”<br />
At about the same time, Vetrano was leaving her home in the Queens neighborhood to take a run along the path flanked by towering 10-foot high weeds.</p>

Officials have already said Lewis was linked to the strangling by DNA found under the fingernails of Vetrano, who fought desperately for survival over the last five minutes of her life.<br />
The statements included Lewis consenting to collection of a DNA swab taken from his inner cheek.<br />
The defendant&#8217;s attorney are seeking more disclosures from the prosecution. They released a statement noting that prosecutors were now obliged to surrender all their evidence against Lewis.<br />
“Chanel Lewis officially pleaded not guilty to all charges of the indictment,” read a statement issued by the Legal Aid Society.<br />
“Under New York State law, (prosecutors) must now begin to disclose and turn over all evidence &#8230; Our defense team looks forward to closely reviewing all case documents.”</p>
