<p class="mol-para-with-font">The meteoric rise and fall of onetime New England Patriots tight-end, Aaron Hernandez, came to a crashing halt Wednesday morning. Hernandez allegedly hung himself inside his jail cell at the Souza Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley Massachusetts.<br />
The former Patriot&#8217;s suicide just days after he was acquitted of a 2012 double murder, comes on the same day that his former teammates are scheduled to be honored at the White House for their recent Super Bowl win. He reportedly, did not leave a note.<br />
Before his conviction in the death of his one time friend, Odin Loyd, the former tight end and father of a four-year-old daughter was one of the brightest stars in the NFL after he was selected by Bill Belichick in the 2010 NFL Draft.<br />
However all of that unraveled when he was sentenced to serving life in prison without parole for the shooting death of semi-professional football player Lloyd, in 2013.</p>

<div class="artSplitter mol-img-group">Christopher Fallon, the Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Communications of the Massachusetts Department of Correction, sent out a message after Hernandez&#8217;s death on Wednesday.</div>
<p class="mol-para-with-font">&#8216;On April 19, 2017 Aaron Hernandez was discovered hanged in his cell by corrections officers at the Souza Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley Massachusetts at approximately 3:05 a.m., lifesaving techniques were attempted on Mr. Hernandez and he was transported to UMASS Leominster where he was pronounced dead at 4:07 a.m. by a physician at the hospital,&#8217; said Fallon.<br />
&#8216;Mr. Hernandez was in a single cell in a general population housing unit. Mr. Hernandez hanged himself utilizing a bed sheet that he attached to his cell window.<br />
&#8216;Mr. Hernandez also attempted to block his door from the inside by jamming the door with various items. The Massachusetts State Police are on scene and the investigation continues. Mr. Hernandez’s next of kin have been notified.&#8217;<br />
A spokesperson for the Patriots said that the team would not be commenting on Hernandez&#8217;s death at this time, stating: &#8216;We are aware of the reports, but I don&#8217;t anticipate that we will be commenting today.&#8217;<br />

<p class="meta">Hernandez is reputed to have had a violent record in prison, including many fights with other inmates,. However, he was not on suicide watch at the time of his death because there were no indications he was contemplating suicide.<br />
State Police are investigating the incident, and will take a look at what time he went to his cell, the last time he was seen by guards and if there had been any recent incidents between Hernandez and other inmates, corrections authorities said.<br />
Investigators will also examine the recent phone calls and visits that Hernandez received,<br />
Hernandez&#8217;s attorney Jose Baez is claiming that he and the family believe that the former football star was murdered, and did not commit suicide.<br />
According to Baez: &#8220;Aaron was looking forward to an opportunity for a second chance to prove his innocence.&#8221;</p>

<p class="mol-para-with-font">In his first two seasons with the Patriots he proved to be such an asset that he was signed to a five year contract extension in August 2012 worth a staggering $40million &#8211; just one month after the murders of Abreu and Furtado.<br />
That bonus came after his commanding performance in the 2012 Super Bowl earlier that year, during which he scored a touchdown and lead the team in yards despite their loss to the New York Giants.<br />
Hernandez&#8217;s 2012 season was his best yet, and he seemed to have everything going for him as he and fellow tight end Rob Gronkowski proved to be a red-hot tandem, both league leaders in yards, receptions and touchdowns that season.</p>

Hernandez was at the top of his game on the field and the home front when he made the decision to murder Lloyd, one of his pals who happened to be married to his fiancée&#8217;s sister. He was arrested nine days after Lloyd&#8217;s body was discovered in June 2013. The Patriots released him soon after<br />
He has been in prison ever since, and soon after his arrest was also indicted for the murders of Abreu and Furtado.</div>

Allegedly, Hernandez flunked in a test given to almost all NFL prospects. He ranked incredibly low for social maturity and it was noted that his responses &#8216;suggest he enjoys living on the edge of acceptable behavior and that he may be prone to partying too much and doing questionable things that could be seen as a problem for him and his team.&#8217;<br />
They went ahead to draft him, then resign the star tight end to a contract extension, after two seasons.</div>

<p class="imageCaption">The football star was reduced to tears in that moment when a jury declared him not guilty in the death of the two men, who the prosecution had argued were murdered by Hernandez for spilling a drink on the football star.<br />
Soon after, it was reported that Hernandez would be appealing his initial murder conviction in hopes of having his life sentence commuted.</p>

<p class="mol-para-with-font">In the wake of his suicide, his conviction for the murder of Lloyd will now be vacated because he was still in the process of appealing that decision thanks to a principal known as abatement ab initio.<br />
This means that none of the evidence in that case can be used in any civil lawsuit filed against his estate by members of Lloyd&#8217;s family, leaving whatever is left of his millions to his young daughter.</p>
