Gretchen Ann Krohnfeldt, a married mother-of-three was found dead inside her home from a suspected suicide Tuesday, one day after she was accused of having an inappropriate Krohnfeldt, 47, was pronounced dead in her Arvada home at around 1pm. There was no immediate word on her cause and manner of death.
According to local TV station, CBS Denver reports, police sources said Gretchen Ann Krohnfeldt, who taught eighth-grade social studies at Drake Middle School took her own life as police officers were approaching her home to interview her about the alleged affair.
Her death was reportedly witnessed by at least one law enforcement official.
On Monday, Krohnfeldt was placed on administrative leave after a resource officer at Drake Middle School received a tip that the veteran educator had a tryst with a former student, who was now in high school.
According to a statement put out by the Arvada Police Department and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the initial report was made by a Drake staffer.
It was reported that officers were approaching Krohnfeldt’s home in Arvada (photo) to interview her about the alleged affair Tuesday when she took her own life
After getting the report, the principal of the school immediately contacted the local police and the sheriff’s office, who dispatched officers to the school to search Krohnfeldt’s home.
According to Arvada police, they were investigating a report of a possible physical relationship between a staffer at Drake Middle School and a student. The relationship which allegedly occurred at Krohnfeldt’s Arvada home, happened when the boy, now in high school was a student at Drake Middle School.
According to Krohnfeldt’s biography page on Drake’s website, the Arvada native had been teaching in Jefferson County since 1993.
She had taught social studies, English language arts and reading intervention.
On Tuesday, the school sent home a letter to students informing them that Krohnfeldt ‘has suddenly passed away.’
‘Our hearts go out to her family at this painful time, and I know many will feel this loss deeply,’ the statement read, in part.

Grief counselors were made available at the middle school to help students and staff struggling with grief.
Jefferson County Public Schools has put out a statement saying that the investigation into Krohnfeldt’s alleged misconduct was in its ‘infancy’ and that the school will continue looking into the matter in coordination with law enforcement.
