Carlo Madonia killed his wife of more than 30 years in a fit of rage because she wouldn’t stop “nagging him” about his decision to return to work so soon after having a heart attack, Wednesday morning, at their home in northwest suburban Bartlett, Illinois
Carlo Madonia, 58, appeared Friday in DuPage County bond court, Il where his bond was set at $3 million. He is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Nancy Madonia, 58, whose body was discovered Wednesday in the master bathroom of the couple’s home in the 200 block of Lido Trail.
The couple’s son and daughter discovered their mother’s body after coming to the house Wednesday morning when they were unable to contact Nancy Madonia, Assistant State’s Attorney Kristin Johnston told Judge Joseph Bugos at the bond hearing.
An autopsy confirmed the cause of death as manual strangulation, Johnston said.

Police responded around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday to a report of a medical emergency or possible death at a home in the 200-block of Lido Trail.
Police who responded said they found Carlo Madonia in the kitchen, with blood on his T-shirt and a bloody hand.
He was taken into custody at that time.
Officers found Madonia’s wife, 58-year-old Nancy Madonia, upstairs. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The children told police that their father had a heart attack around Easter and had “not been himself” since then, Johnston said. The couple’s son had been at the home the previous night to help his mother with Carlo Madonia’s care. The son and mother had exchanged texts later, about 11 p.m., and Nancy Madonia texted that Carlo was asleep.
After his wife’s body was found, Carlo Madonia had initially declined to talk to police, Johnston said, but he later told them that his wife had been “nagging” him about returning to work. A struggle had taken place and Madonia strangled his wife, Johnston said. During the altercation,
Assistant State’s Attorney Kristin Johnston gave an account of Wednesday morning,’s events as related by the couple’s son.
Carlo Madonia was showering and getting ready for work when his wife, ” Johnston said, began nagging him about returning to work too soon.”
Madonia allegedly, pushed his wife to the floor and then wrapped his hands around her neck as she struggled.
Carlo Madonia had scratch wounds all over his face and body and a bite mark on his pinkie finger, Johnston said.
After killing his wife, Madonia attempted to hang himself with a belt from a bathrobe, but he later told police “he just couldn’t do it.”
Madonia, who has no criminal history, told Judge Joseph Bugos he would not be able to post bond. His next court date is scheduled for 9 a.m. June 12.
