A 16-month-old old toddler is hospitalized, fighting for life after she was savagely beaten by an adult male on Sunday, June 18.
Nylaha Lewis is in critical condition at Maimonides Hospital with two skull fractures, bleeding on the brain, a black left eye and bruises on her face, legs and other parts of her body. Family members said she is in a coma and required a blood transfusion.
Nylaha’s father, Shaquan Taylor — who turns 19 on Tuesday was arrested early Monday and charged with felony assault and acting in a manner injurious to a child younger than 17.
Baby Nylaha’s grieving relatives said Taylor from Brooklyn  who never wanted to be a parent beat his 16-month-old daughter to within an inch of her life during a Father’s Day visit, police sources confirmed Monday. Her mother 17-year-old Tammy Lewis did not get off either, as it took the arrival of officers to stop the severe thrashing Taylor was giving her.

The suspect attempted to flee as officers arrived, but they caught him and placed him in custody.
The reluctant dad has denied beating his daughter, claiming first that she fell off the bed, then that she fell off the toilet. However, doctors at Maimonides Hospital, where the child was transferred after first going to Coney Island Hospital, told police her injuries are not consistent with a fall.
Taylor allegedly lured Tammy Lewis to his Coney Island apartment on Sunday, with a Facebook message  telling her to come pick up their daughter because there was a problem.
When the mother arrived, her daughter was face-up on the couch and struggling to breathe, with obvious bruising on her face.
She grabbed the toddler and left, but Taylor caught up to her in the lobby, where he knocked her to the ground with one punch — as she was holding their child, sources said.
Taylor then grabbed Nylaha and handed her to a friend, who handed her to an EMS team that had been dispatched to the scene.
Lewis ran off, but the Taylor chased her and continued pummeling her outside his W. 32nd St. building, bruising her face. As officers arrived on the scene the errant dad attempted to flee. The officers chased Taylor down and placed him under arrest

Shaquan Taylor who was described as a ‘reluctant dad’,  already has five priors, including being charged with sexual misconduct in 2015 because his girlfriend, Lewis, was only 14 at the time. A year later, in April 2016,  Nylaha was only 2 months old when Taylor was again arrested for harassing Lewis.
Taylor and Lewis met on Facebook, and started a relationship in the face of family opposition, but from the moment Lewis got pregnant he wanted no part of her life, even claiming he wasn’t the father.
Even after Nylaha was born, he was unwilling to be involved in parenting.
On one occasion, after Lewis who had been trying without luck to reach him about their child got through, Taylor sent her a Facebook message: “If you call me, I’m going to violate you.”
Tammy’s sister, Christine Munford  revealed that a year ago : “He [Taylor], threatened that he was going to hit the baby if she brought [her] around,”  Christine said.
“And [Sunday] he threatened her and said he was going to punch her in the face when she got there,  and then obviously that happened.” her sister observed.
Baby Nylaha Lewis is in critical condition at Maimonides Hospital.
