A woman in Columbus, Ohio, who was left bed-ridden after a gruesome attack in 2015 has died, her family says.
, ABC 6 reported that Judy Malinowski who died at the age of 33, became a victim of a violent attack at the hands of her ex-boyfriend, Michael Slager, who set her on fire after a fight at a gas station. The attack took place in August 2015.
Malinowski received at least 52 post-attack surgeries.
43-year-old Slager from Gahanna, Ohio who was accused of throwing gasoline on his girlfriend and setting her on fire behind an Ohio gas station was later convicted of the crime.
After pleading no contest the judge found Slager guilty of aggravated arson, felonious assault and possession of criminal tools. He was sentenced to serve 11 years in prison.

After seeing the story, State Representative Jim Hughes introduced legislation to further punish in cases like Malinowski’s that maim or disfigure. Legislators are currently looking over a bill in the state Senate to add at least six years of jail time for anyone who uses an accelerant where the victim is permanently disfigured or disabled.

The Senate is expected to vote on the bill soon after it was unanimously approved by the House in May.
After the attack, Malinowski endured at least 52 surgeries. Prior to one of her operations last December, Malinowski struggled to speak to ABC 6/FOX 28 as she spoke about her suffering and desire to see “Judy’s law” through to help prevent others from a situation like hers.
The Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office has said it will seek murder charges against Michael Slager should Malinowski die from her injuries.
