&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;Did you call the sheriffs&quest;”<br &sol;>&NewLine;The question was inadvertently picked up by the smart speaker and the voice-powered virtual assistant recognized the phrase as a command&comma; prompting it to call 911&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;Bernallillo County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that  the Alexa virtual assistant was connected to a landline in the home&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;The sheriff’s office claims a smart home device heard Barros say those words and took it as &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;call the sheriff’s&period;” Deputies responded and Barros was taken into custody after a SWAT situation&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;He is facing several charges including aggravated battery and being a felon with a gun&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<h6><span style&equals;"color&colon;&num;120101&semi;"><strong>Amazon&&num;8217&semi;s smart home device &&num;8216&semi;Alexa&&num;8217&semi;&comma; &lbrack;The victim&rsqb; stated she thought she was going to be killed or shot&period;”<br &sol;>&NewLine;Responding deputies managed to remove the woman and her unidentified daughter from the home&period;
