Darla Elizabeth Hise told detectives she killed her 6-year-old daughter in February to protect her from aliens

A Virginia mom is behind bars for the murder of her young child in bizarre circumstances. The Bath County woman is charged with killing her 6-year-old daughter after she told a detective that she wanted to send the girl to heaven to protect her from aliens, according to court documents filed this week.
Court documents, obtained by Roanoke.com, confirm that Darla Elizabeth Hise admitted to shooting Abigail Grace Hise. The mother of two reportedly told Detective Jeff Grimm during an in-hospital interview that by sending her daughter to heaven, she was protecting her from aliens.
Hise, 27, is charged with first-degree murder in the Feb. 4 shotgun slaying of Abigail Grace Hise in their Hot Springs home.

According to the site, on July 26, attorney Tony Anderson filed a motion suggesting that his client was unable to consciously waive her right to remain silent due to her mental state and persistent drug use.
He requested, in the documents, that Hise’s statement to police be suppressed.
“In this case, the evidence will show that [Hise’s] drug use and psychosis prevented her from being fully aware that she was abandoning her right against self-incrimination and to counsel and the consequences of abandoning those rights,” the motion read.
“Throughout her interview with Detective Grimm, she detailed her psychosis that she believed her daughter and son were in danger from aliens and she thought she was going to save her daughter by sending her to heaven.”
Initial filings seemingly support Anderson’s claims. Hise [left], was reportedly speaking incoherently when she was taken to the hospital on the night her daughter was murdered.
Roanoke.com reported that tests taken around the time of her arrest confirmed that Hise had been using methamphetamines, amphetamines and marijuana. She admitted to police that she’d been using all three substances for three weeks leading up to her arrest.
The site notes that doctors diagnosed her with “possible drug-induced psychosis vs PTSD psychosis.”
The 27-year-old is currently being held at Western Virginia Regional Jail. According to online records, charges against her include two counts of first-degree murder, two counts first-degree felony use of a firearm, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of a gun with drugs.
The records indicate that a jury trial is currently scheduled for Aug. 23.
Setting the scene for this rather unusual suspect cooperation with law enforcement is the events of Feb 4, 2017.
Bath County Sheriff Robert Plecker said authorities responded to a call about a potential shooting at around 10 pm.  The caller, later confirmed to be Hise, reportedly refused to provide the 911 dispatcher with names or a precise location.
Plecker said authorities were able to trace the call to a general location, where they encountered Hise.
After confirming that it was her who placed the call, a deputy was led to Hise’s home on Billy Goat Lane in Hot Springs, Virginia. Inside, the deputy discovered lifeless body of 6-year-old Abigail Hise. Darla’s 3-year-old son was also found in the home, WDBJ 7 reported. He was placed in the care of other family members, while her daughter’s body was transported to the medical examiner’s office to determine cause of death.

Hise voluntarily spent the night in the hospital. Waiving her Miranda rights allegedly, she spoke with investigators working the case early on the morning of Feb. 5.
An arrest warrant was issued at about 8:15 a.m. that same day, and the confessed killer was taken into custody.
Several days after her statement, the suspect was transferred to Central State Hospital, where she reportedly made statements about aliens in her body and was “observed to be paranoid and suspicious,” the motion stated.
