Remains found beneath a concrete block at a Georgia home have been identified as those of an Iraq War veteran missing since 2014.
The Cobb County Medical Examiner’s office was able to confirm it was Chase Massner through dental records with the Defense Department..
“Now we can begin to plan a proper funeral for Chase, our son, husband and father,” his mother, Stephanie Cadena, said in a statement to the channel. “The next step is to prosecute the man being charged in this case!”
Officials found Massner’s bones and other remains at a Kennesaw, Ga., home on Aug. 1, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
The house previously belonged to James Bradshaw Clement, who’s believed to be the last person to see the Army veteran alive.
Clement, 31, was arrested in neighboring Dekalb County two weeks ago, charged with concealing a death. He was denied bond during a court appearance Friday morning after his arrest in DeKalb County on Aug 10.

Brad Clement was arrested two weeks ago and charged with concealing a death

The arrest came after Clement initially told police he’d turn himself in when search dogs found the remains.
He changed his mind, however, and spent a week on the run before he was finally apprehended, according to the Journal Constitution.
Clement rented a U-Haul using a false name, according to a authorities. When he didn’t return the U-Haul, the company called the Fugitive Task Force. He was arrested after leaving from inside a Publix grocery store without incident.
Clement reportedly was inside the store wearing a baseball hat and sunglasses in order to conceal his identity. Once he walked outside, he was apprehended by police. Clement didn’t say anything during his arrest.
Massner, then 26, had spent four years in the Army, including a one-year deployment to Iraq. He was working as the night manager of a QuikTrip convenience store when he disappeared.
Clement initially told investigators he picked Massner up at an Arby’s in Kennesaw near the war vet’s job, WGCL reported.
Massner, a father of two, had a fight with his wife and wanted to talk to Clement about it.

Clement said Massner spent the night at his home, and left on foot the next morning.
Search dogs started to scour the home earlier this summer and found the remains earlier this month.
The confirmation of identity would help in bringing closure to Masssner’s mom, Stephanie Cadena who previously told WGCL she was frustrated that it was taking so long for officials to positively identify her son.
“I’m in no way an expert, but to a mother just wanting to lay her son to rest, this is incomprehensible,” she vented to the channel.

Cadena spoke to CBS46 about the ordeal of getting her son’s remains identified.
She was frustrated, she said, with the length of time it has taken to get her son’s dental records from the military.
“I’m in no way an expert, but to a mother just wanting to lay her son to rest, this is incomprehensible,” she said.
The body, believed to be that of Massner, had been found buried behind a home once owned by Brad Clement, the man accused of concealing Massner’s death. Clement is currently jailed in DeKalb County. The identify of the remains has been confirmed by the medical examiner as belonging to Massner.
