A battered remains of found Saturday in Brooklyn waters stabbed, wrapped in a tarp and chained to a cinderblock has been identified by police as belonging to a second generation mobster.
The body of Carmine Carini was found Saturday in the waters off Ave. U and E. 58th Street, a few blocks from his house in Mill Basin, Brooklyn.
The victim is named after his father Carmine Carini, 58, a New York mobster who was convicted in the 1980’s for a mob-style hit and served 23 years in prison for murder, police said Tuesday.
Carini Jr, 35 was found wrapped in a blue tarp, his ankles and knees bound with duct tape and tied to a cinder block, was found floating in the waters off southern Brooklyn, police said.
An orange rope had been tied to his feet. And the rope was affixed to the cinder block apparently used to weigh the body down.
A pedestrian spotted the body floating in Brooklyn waters at the Mill Basin inlet about 11 a.m., Saturday cops said. The witness flagged down a passing fire truck, and a firefighter called police.
An autopsy determined he had been killed by blunt force trauma and the case had been ruled a homicide. Giving details, police said the dead mobster had been stabbed repeatedly in the arm and leg and his skull was badly fractured, sources said.
The head trauma, which is said to be the cause of death, was so extensive detectives had to identify him through his fingerprints.

Police prepare to transport Carini’s remains to the ME’s office for the Autopsy, Saturday

The older Carini was convicted of shooting a Brooklyn record store owner three times in the head and dumping him out of a car in an October 1983 mob-style hit.
A judge ordered the older Carini’s conviction vacated in 2007 after two Mafia informants told prosecutors Carini didn’t have a direct role in the slaying. They pointed to his cousins Vincent and Eddie Carini as being actually responsible for the murder.
Before he was allowed to go free Carini had to plead guilty to manslaughter. He did and was released with time served.

Carmine Carini had obviously been tortured. His skull was badly fractured, and he’d been stabbed multiple times in the arms and legs. Death was caused by the head trauma, police said

Barely a year after his release, the older Carini was back in jail following a spate of home invasion robberies. He was finally charged with pistol-whipping the father of an aspiring teen pop star during one such robbery on Staten Island. He was also accused of busting into a house with a police shield claiming to have a warrant to look for drugs.
After his conviction in 2008, he was not to taste freedom again until this past July 7.
Carmine Carini junior was arrested four times previously, a police source said. One of them, a Queens robbery case was dismissed. He was once arrested for possession of hundreds of tablets of powerful painkillers and was sentenced to a year in jail.
In 2003, he and an accomplice were arrested for robbery and menacing in Brooklyn after they forcibly took cash from five different victims.

The victims told police that Carini and his accomplice put a machete to their necks before snatching the cash.
In several of the cases, Carini was accused of screaming at his fellow robber to stab the victim. A five year prison sentence was the outcome of the guilty plea to the charge of first-degree robbery.
Making jail a habit like his dad, the younger Carini was released in 2009, but then twice violated his parole and had two more stints in prison in 2011 and 2014.
Having served the maxed sentence, in October 2015 he was released from state prison.
