Jessica Briones is accused of causing 4-year-old daughter Olivia serious bodily injury
Briones, 34, walked into the San Antonio police substation on Sept. 5 carrying the unresponsive child
Her excuse for not calling 911 was that she ‘couldn’t find her cell phone and was low on minutes’
Olivia Briones died the next day, doctors said her injuries were severe and consistent with a blow to the head
Olivia had eight scars on her scalp, a black eye, a swollen nose, both arms swollen
She also had a deflated lung, a swollen wrist, a fractured vertebrae, a large abrasion on the back of her head, a bruised ankle and the tissue in her upper lip was detached from her gums
Jessica Briones was charged with injury to a child, faces up to 99 years in prison if convicted
DA’s office also said the charges could be upgraded depending on Olivia’s cause of death
Briones reportedly admitted that she slammed her daughter’s arm in a door, but claimed it was an accident.
She also told investigators that a few days before Olivia died, she would often fall and hit her head, most recently on Sept 1.
The suspected abusive mother was charged with injury to a child and could spend up to 99 years in prison if convicted. She is being held in the Bexar County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
