<p>A 34-year-old San Antonio mother told police that she couldn’t find her cell phone and was low on minutes so she didn’t call 911 for her severely injured daughter, who later died from her injuries. Now the San Antonio district attorney&#8217;s office said the charges against Jessica Briones could be upgraded depending on Olivia&#8217;s cause of death.<br />
Briones is accused of causing her daughter Olivia serious bodily injury after she walked into the San Antonio police substation on Sept. 5 carrying the unresponsive child.<br />

Briones has been charged in her 4-year-old daughter&#8217;s death after authorities are said to be disbelieving of her excuse that she of not being able to locate her cell phone which incidentally was &#8220;low on minutes,&#8221; at the time.<br />
Responding to the rationale behind bringing the injured child to the police substation instead of calling emergency services, Briones allegedly told investigators that she couldn&#8217;t find her cell phone and she was &#8220;low on minutes.&#8221;<br />
The obviously traumatized 4-year-old girl was immediately taken to University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead the following day.<br />
Doctors at the hospital found that Olivia&#8217;s injuries were severe head trauma, consistent with a blow. According to the doctors&#8217; report, the child had brain swelling and multiple bleeding sites inside her head.<br />
The autopsy report performed by the medical examiner&#8217;s office also determined that the little girl had eight scars on her scalp, a black eye, a swollen nose, a deflated lung.</p>
<p>The list of severe injuries also included both of her arms swollen, a wrist swollen, and she had a fractured vertebrae, a large abrasion on the back of her head, a bruised ankle and the tissue in her upper lip was detached from her gums.</p></div>

<article id="ra-body">While a final determination as to the cause of death, is still pending, Briones allegedly, told police that she didn&#8217;t know how her daughter got such serious injuries.<br />
Briones reportedly admitted that she slammed her daughter&#8217;s arm in a door, but claimed it was an accident.<br />
She also told investigators that a few days before Olivia died, she would often fall and hit her head, most recently on Sept 1.<br />
The suspected abusive mother was charged with injury to a child and could spend up to 99 years in prison if convicted. She is being held in the Bexar County Jail on a $25,000 bond.</p>
