The brother of Stephen Paddock, the crazed gunman who killed more than 58 people at an outdoor Las Vegas concert on Sunday night, has revealed intriguing details about his brotththeir past.
The man police say killed 58 people, at the last count, on the Las Vegas Strip was a retired accountant who enjoyed playing $100-a-hand poker, according to his brother and their family history.
Eric Paddock, a brother of Las Vegas shooter Stephen Craig Paddock says he was a multimillionaire who made much of his money investing in real estate. Eric Paddock told reporters Monday in Orlando that his brother was also an accountant for many years and he was not aware of his brother having any recent financial difficulties.
More significant was Eric’s revelation that their dad, Patrick Benjamin Paddock, was a convicted bank robber on the FBI’s Most Wanted list. Eric told reporters Monday that their father was a convicted bank robber who was added to the FBI’s Most Wanted list after escaping prison in the 1960s.
Patrick Benjamin Paddock, who went by a variety of aliases including “Chromedome” and “Old Baldy,” was arrested in his 30s for robbing a Valley National Bank in Phoenix in 1960. At the time he was living in Tucson with his wife and four kids.

Paddock was also accused of robbing two other Valley National Bank branches for more than $20,000, but the charges were dropped after he was convicted of the first crime.

According to a 1961 article, Paddock attempted to escape a Las Vegas jail by posing as another inmate. Paddock was waiting to be extradited to Phoenix at the time.

A federal warrant for his arrest was issued in Feb. 1969 and he was added to the FBI’s 10 most-wanted fugitives list. Paddock remained on the most-wanted list until 1977. He was arrested the following year in Oregon, where he was managing a bingo parlor under the alias Bruce Werner Ericksen. It’s believed he died in 1998.
Meanwhile Las Vegas police confirmed that his son Stephen Paddock, 64, of Mesquite, Nev., took his own life in his Mandalay Bay hotel room on the 32nd floor, where he had been staying since Thursday, Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said.
“We believe the individual killed himself prior to our entry,” Sheriff Lombardo said.
Police found a cache of 10 rifles in his room, Lombardo said, adding that it was unclear how he managed to keep the weapons from being discovered by housekeeping staff.
Cops were able to locate the room due to its smoke detector, which was blaring as a result of the heavy smoke created from the automatic weapon, Las Vegas police sources said.
