<p>An ultra conservative anti-LGBT Ohio state representative who resigned this week over “inappropriate behavior” with another man at his legislative office had a history of aggressively pursuing gay men during his time in Washington D.C. He also engaged in inappropriate [lewd], communication with young people.<br />
The revelations are a stark contrast to the conservative beliefs, like marriage only occurring between a man and a woman, that Republican state Rep. Wesley Goodman touted in his public life.<br />
According to <a href="http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2017/11/ohio_legislator_wes_goodman_le.html#incart_2box" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Cleveland.com</a>, Goodman a former congressional staffer who also worked for conservative groups, was “all over Craigslist,” said another frequent poster on the site, Chris Donnelly.<br />
Donnelly, also a Republican congressional aide, said Goodman replied to one of his posts and they had a sexual rendezvous in 2008. He showed the news site emails from an account using the name Brad Murphey, a “straight/curious” man who needed to keep things quiet.</p>

<p>“Maybe we can hang and see what&#8217;s up, no expectations really,” the email read. “But your post seemed cool so let me know bro.”<br />
Donnelly said he wasn’t the only gay man in the nation’s capital to know about Goodman.<br />
“It became a running joke between me and my gay friends on Capitol Hill,” he <a href="http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2017/11/ohio_legislator_wes_goodman_le.html#incart_2box" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told Cleveland.com</a>. “It’s not like it was some one-off thing.”<br />
In public, Wesley Goodman masqueraded as an up-and-coming conservative who championed pro-family and anti-LGBT causes and aspired to someday run for Congress.<br />
In private, he exchanged salacious texts and emails with gay men he met on Capitol Hill, and sent sexually suggestive messages to young men he met through conservative circles who were too intimidated to publicly complain, according to three people who knew him when he worked in Washington.<br />
Goodman&#8217;s double life ended on Tuesday when <a href="http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2017/11/ohio_rep_wes_goodman_resigns_o.html">he resigned</a> from the Ohio legislature after House Speaker Cliff Rosenberger was alerted to Goodman&#8217;s involvement in &#8220;inappropriate behavior&#8221; with a man in his state office in Columbus.<br />
Another conservative source told <a href="http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2017/11/ohio_legislator_wes_goodman_le.html#incart_2box">cleveland.com</a> Goodman engaged in predatory behavior toward younger men after leaving Jordan&#8217;s office, sending inappropriate material and propositioning them via text message and Facebook messenger.<br />
The conservative operative said he&#8217;d target college kids who wanted to have him as a mentor and were scared to report his sexual advances because they didn&#8217;t want to damage their own careers. A former co-worker shared screenshots of messages Goodman sent him that the operative likened to the lewd texts that derailed the congressional career of New York&#8217;s Anthony Weiner.</p>
