Maranda Richmond claimed state Rep. Dan Johnson assaulted her in the basement of his house on Jan. 1, 2013.
Louisville-based the Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting spoke with Richmond and obtained police records that show she reported the assault in 2013, but the case was closed and charges were never filed.
Richmond, a friend of Johnson’s daughter, told the organization she went to a New Year’s Eve party at Johnson’s home on Dec. 31, 2012. She slept on the couch but was woken up in the middle of the night to find Johnson standing over her.
Maranda Richmond said the conservative, christian lawmaker groped her, stuck his tongue in her mouth and slid his hands down her pants and into her vagina.
The woman said she futilely begged Johnson, a preacher from the nondenominational Heart of Fire Church to stop but he persisted in assaulting her, telling her she would like it before he finally left the room.

Leaders from both sides of the aisle are calling on Johnson to resign in light of the allegations, although Republican Gov. Matt Bevin said he is yet to read the report, concluding, “let’s wait until we get some facts” before commenting.
Johnson reportedly has not yet responded to the allegations.
In 2016 Tea party GOP candidate Johnson made news when some of his Facebook postings was described by Kentucky state GOP chair, Mac Brown, as “outrageous” and the “rankest sort of prejudice.”

Media reports highlighted racist posts he shared. One image depicted Barack and Michelle Obama as cartoonish apes. Another showed a young chimpanzee with a caption, “Obama’s baby picture.” A third post showed former President Ronald Reagan feeding a small chimp a bottle. It was titled, “Reagan babysits a young Obama.” As critics denounced his primordial antics, Johnson dismissed the criticism, characterising his own Facebook was “entertaining.” He claimed that the posts were simply satire and fair game.
However, even his own party disagreed urging him to withdraw from the race. Johnson ignored all critics and continued to post and share exclusionary, nationalist, anti-Islam, racist posts. This country was in trouble, Johnson claimed, and needed help. He was the one to provide it.
Ultimately, on election night, Trump swamped Clinton in Bullitt County winning nearly three-quarters of the vote. In the 49th District race, Johnson squeaked past his Democratic opponent, the incumbent 69-year-old Linda Belcher, a retired schoolteacher, principal and lifelong county resident by 156 votes.
