<p>A Manhattan judge slammed the misogynist short order chef who forced his girlfriend to march outside naked with the maximum sentence Wednesday, sending him to prison for as many as seven years.<br />
On Jan. 17, 2016, Jasson Melo flew into a rage when he got home after a night out and discovered the 22-year-old victim had text messages from other men, authorities said.<br />
Melo, 26, faced time for coercion, a felony, for making the mother of his child undress and walk around his Harlem block in the aftermath of his blow up. This followed hours of verbal and physical abuse inside his apartment, according to evidence submitted at his trial in Manhattan Supreme Court.</p>

<p>During sentencing on Wednesday,Justice Robert Mandelbaum observed that &#8220;Jasson Melo&#8217;s view of women belongs to the Dark Ages,&#8221; Judge Mandelbaum said before sentencing the former United Nations chef to 2 1/3 to 7 years in prison.<br />
&#8220;To him, women are property.&#8221;<br />
Melo filmed the deranged shaming stunt, in which he can be heard scolding her in Spanish and calling her a &#8220;whore.&#8221;<br />
He later promoted the video on Instagram and tried to sell merchandise with quotes from the twisted footage.<br />
He even recreated the January 17, 2016 walk for a music video and joked about the victim&#8217;s humiliation in social media posts.<br />
Melo sent the clip to her relatives and men he believed she’d been flirting with.<br />

<p>The young woman he brutalized testified that they were in the process of splitting up, and she was moving without him to the Dominican Republic.<br />
Melo a short order chef at United Nations Plaza had their 2-month-old unattended on Melo&#8217;s bed at his W. 142nd St. building as he threatened to beat her with a metal Buddha statue if she refused to go outside in the nude.<br />
The video went viral and became the subject of a widely covered news story when Melo was arrested.<br />
The mind numbing The judge said the victim&#8217;s trial testimony shows she &#8220;remains scarred from the fear and humiliation, maybe forever.&#8221;<br />
The victim, now 24, was not in court but expressed her torment in a letter read by prosecutor Caitlin Connolly.</p>

<p>Giving testimony, the victim said &#8220;the pain and emotions were and still are unexplainable and unimaginable.&#8221;<br />
&#8220;Mr. Melo destroyed me in so many ways, and didn&#8217;t stop as he would continuously taunt me as if his nightmare was his sick joke,&#8221; she wrote.<br />
Melo dragged out her pain by making himself a social media celebrity, promoting the video and participating in a music video that mocked the naked walk with an actress reenacting the scene.<br />
He also tried to sell T-shirts with quotes from the recording, marketing the $20 apparel on his Instagram page.<br />
“You Wanna Be A Tot!?” one shirt read, a play on his butchering of “THOT,” street slang for “That Ho Over There.”<br />
Melo sent the film of her deranged punishment to the other men and her relatives. The footage quickly went viral.<br />
He is heard in the clip berating her in Spanish, calling her a “whore” and demanding she “cooperate, you damned b&#8212;-,” according to a trial translation.</p>

<p>Melo’s victim, the mother of his child who was about 2 months old at the time, testified that he threatened to bash her with a metal Buddha statue if she did not undress and walk outdoors.<br />
Connolly had argued for the maximum 28 to 84 month sentence for Melo, who she said was &#8220;remorseless and laughing about his conduct&#8221; at his trial.<br />
Defense attorney, Theodore Herlich, argued for a lighter sentence, saying that his client finding a photo of another man&#8217;s penis on the victim&#8217;s phone triggered the defendant&#8217;s angry response.</p>

Melo was previously offered plea deals without jail time, according to Herlich.<br />
Melo blew kisses at his family after the hearing.</p>

<p>After sentencing Wednesday, Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance Jr. issued a statement: &#8220;It is my hope that anyone who is suffering from domestic violence and abuse knows that there is help available. I strongly encourage anyone who believes they have been or know a victim to call my Office&#8217;s Domestic Violence Hotline at 212-335-4308 or visit one of our City&#8217;s Family Justice Centers,&#8221; Vance Jr. said.</p>
