Knoxville police have launched a manhunt for a  31-year-old man from who shot a police officer with a shotgun on Thursday night, and remains on the loose.
Ronnie Lucas Wilson opened fire on Knoxville Officer David Williams as the cop attempted to stop him for speeding, according to Police Chief David Rausch. Police say Williams, who suffered a shoulder wound, may not have fired his weapon.
It is not clear if the gunman was the only person in the car during the attempted traffic stop.
Williams reportedly was shot about 8:30 p.m. as he attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding along Washington Pike in Northeast Knoxville, Police Chief David Rausch said.
The suspect allegedly opened fire on Williams with a shotgun while being pursued by the officer.
He then stopped his car, got out and fired multiple rounds at the officer before driving away, the police chief said, Rausch said.
Wilson was added to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s top 10 most wanted fugitives list early Friday, and a $2,500 reward is being offered for his arrest. He is being sought on an attempted murder warrant.
“Do not attempt to intervene. Let law enforcement handle this,” Chief Rausch said, according to WKYC. “If he is going to take a shot at an officer, he’s not going to hesitate to shoot at anyone else. So we ask that folks if you see the vehicle, if you know this individual, then do not intervene. Call law enforcement and let us know where he is.”
