Cameron James Kennedy was charged with interference with commerce by robbery at the United States District Court on Friday.
Kennedy, 26,  allegedly used makeup to appear black when he robbed a casino cage at New York, New York on the Las Vegas Strip on January 10, police said.  He was charged with robbery in the armed holdup of a casino cage at New York-New York, according to the U.S. Department of Justice and a federal criminal complaint filed last week.
He is facing a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, if convicted.

Witness reported seeing the suspect hours after the robbery, and  wearing black clothes and his face had ‘appeared darker than usual’.

Authorities revealed Kennedy was already under federal supervision for two prior bank robbery charges at the time of the crime.  He allegedly cut off his GPS monitoring bracelet three hours before robbing the casino around 12.45 am, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Las Vegas Police said Kennedy showed the cashier a handgun tucked into his waistband and told her ‘I want all your hundreds, and don’t mess around.’

He then purchased a $1,500 gold bracelet, a $1,000 prepaid debit card under a different name, and more than $1,800 in money orders, according to court records.
Police initially described the robbery suspect as a black male, before the cashier told investigators he did not think the suspect was Black because the man’s skin tone was ‘off’ and that the color appeared ‘blotchy’.
Las Vegas Police said Kennedy showed the cashier a handgun tucked into his waistband and told her ‘I want all your hundreds, and don’t mess around’ before fleeing with $23,000.
Police initially describe the robbery suspect as a black male, before the cashier told investigators the man’s skin tone was ‘off’ and that the color appeared ‘blotchy’.
Authorities later learned that Kennedy had used makeup to appear black.
Kennedy was arrested on January 18 after an anonymous tipster told police he had robbed the casino.

Kennedy was arrested on January 18 after an anonymous tipster told police he had robbed the casino. – A witness then told police that they had seen Kennedy hours after the robbery, and revealed he had been wearing black clothes and that his face had ‘appeared darker than usual’.

The same witness then identified Kennedy, who was arrested on January 25, on the casino’s surveillance footage.
Phone records also showed that Kennedy had been near the exact same location where the suspect had been dropped off by the taxi after the robbery. He is now in federal custody for unrelated charges.

Kennedy’s priors include a pair of bank robberies for which he was convicted after he pled guilty in 2012.
Released from prison in June, 2017, he was arrested in December after he allegedly tried to cash an altered check at Gold Coast Hotel and Casino and subsequently placed on house arrest.
Kennedy was ordered to be restrained by leg straps during his court hearing on Monday. He is next due to appear in court on March 26.
