<p>Human remains discovered near the Chattahoochee River in Georgia has been identified as belonging to Timothy Cunningham, an employee of the Atlanta based the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, who vanished nearly two months ago.<br />
Officials made the gruesome discovery the badly decomposed body near the Chattahoochee River, late Tuesday night, in Northwest Atlanta.<br />
On Thursday police confirmed that the body was that of 35-year-old Cunningham, an epidemiologist at the CDC, who was last seen when he left work sick Feb. 12.<br />
His parents later reported finding his phone, wallet, car keys as well as his dog, which had been left unattended, at his Atlanta home.<br />
The Harvard University trained epidemiologist, who was working for the chronic disease department of the CDC, had a conversation with his family that was described as &#8216;quite concerning&#8217; by authorities, the day before he vanished.<br />
“We were aware of some concerns at work that he had shared with us and there were some personal issues too,” Atlanta Police Maj. Michael O&#8217;Connor said.<br />
The day he disappeared, Atlanta police said Cunningham learned he would not be receiving a promotion to branch manager, but the CDC has since walked back claims that Cunningham had been passed over for the position.<br />
“In fact, he received an early promotion/exceptional proficiency promotion to Commander effective July 1, 2017 in recognition of his exemplary performance in the U.S. Public Health Service,” the agency said in a<a href="http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/cdc-worker-missing-wasn-passed-promotion-article-1.3871003" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> March statement.</a><br />
Multiple agencies responded to the scene behind the Atlanta Public Safety House along Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway before 10 p.m. on Tuesday, where they discovered the remains in poor condition, <a href="https://www.wsbtv.com/news/badly-decomposed-body-found-chattahoochee-river-northwest-atlanta/726611185" target="_blank" rel="noopener">WSB-TV</a> reported.<br />
Cunningham reportedly, has played a pivotal role in addressing past public health emergencies, including the outbreak of the Ebola and Zika viruses.<br />
Authorities have not announced evidence to suggest foul play and were previously offering a $15,000 reward for information in the case.</p>
