<p>A Texas woman who faced up to life in prison after embezzling $1.2 million killed herself hours before being sentenced, court records show.<br />
The <a href="https://www.chron.com/neighborhood/spring/news/article/Spring-woman-who-stole-1-2-million-killed-12885852.php" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Houston Chronicle</a>. reports that Paige Moody Bisher, 43, of Spring, shot herself in the chest in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart store in Humble. Texas on Wednesday.<br />
Her apparent suicide happened just hours prior to her scheduled sentencing on, according to Harris County Institute of Forensic Science record.<br />
Bisher, whose death was ruled a suicide by the county’s medical examiner, pleaded guilty in January, admitting that she stole more than $1 million from her Houston employer while working as a part-time administrative assistant.<br />
Prosecutor Lester Blizzard said he intended to seek an extended prison term from state District Judge Nikita Harmon following Bisher’s plea to the felony charge of first-degree theft in excess of $300,000.<br />
“It is a very tragic event and we will pray for the healing of all those involved in this sad case,” Blizzard wrote the newspaper in an email.</p>

<p>Bisher’s felony theft allegedly, was discovered after the owner of the company asked to see the books and instead of showing him the accounts, Bisher quit. That triggered a full scale audit that found she had written checks to herself from the company&#8217;s coffers. The case was referred to the Harris County District Attorney&#8217;s Office financial crimes division, which obtained an indictment against Bisher.<br />
“The abuse of trust in this case was unparalleled in the 24 years I’ve been investigating white-collar crimes,” Bryan Vaclavik, chief fraud examiner for Harris County prosecutors said.</p>

<p>In February 2017, Bisher and her husband, Aaron, were featured in the Houston Chronicle <a href="https://www.houstonchronicle.com/entertainment/restaurants-bars/bbq/article/Magnolia-s-Feedlot-BBQ-embraces-its-competitive-10937563.php#photo-12383977" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> after opening a barbecue restaurant</a> in Magnolia. Aaron Bisher at the time said he decided to open The Feedlot BBQ after getting laid off from the oil industry. The restaurant has since closed.<br />
Bisher was a “true blue friend to many,” her friend Tobie Jo Baker posted on Facebook.<br />
“She will forever be missed,” the post read. “At her request, there will not be a traditional funeral or memorial service at this time.”</p>
