<p>“The attack on this child was brazen, committed in broad daylight, on the median strip of a busy parkway, and the evidence against Paulino is overwhelming,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah Mortazavi wrote to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals in papers filed earlier this month.</p>

The machete murder horrified the city, and authorities vowed to crack down on the Trinitarios gang.</p>

<p>&#8216;Ramon Paulino, one of 12 Trinitarios members named as suspects in th Bronx River Parkway assault is facing federal charges including gang assault. Paulino&#8217;s case is being handled by federal prosecutors. Around a dozen other suspects are still being sought.<br />
Authorities say Paulino lifted a large log over his head and slammed it down on the ground onto the victim, who was also stabbed 13 to 16 times in the lung and kidney in the melee.<br />
The New York Police Department released footage showing a 14-year-old boy being set upon by a large gang of men on June 18 on the Bronx River Parkway near East Gun Hill Road.<br />
<a href="http://brooklyn.news12.com/story/38508656/video-released-of-teen-stabbing-near-bronx-river-parkway" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Police say</a> the boy was swimming with friends in the Bronx River when a fight broke out with another group. The gang chased the boy before stabbing him several times during the brutal daytime assault.<br />
According to the federal complaint, a high-ranking member of the Trinitarios gang ordered a hit on the 14-year-old victim because of a dispute between the victim’s girlfriend and a female member of the Trinitarios.<br />
<strong>T</strong>he 14-year-old victim allegedly, had identified himself as a member of the Grizzlies, a group affiliated with the Bloods gang. The Bloods are a main rival of the Trinitarios.<br />
The boy was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in critical condition after suffering stab wounds to his lung and kidney.<br />
The stabbing was followed by a shooting police which believe was retaliatory.</p>

<p>The government asked a judge to imprison Paulino during a hearing June 22. But federal magistrate judge Henry Pitman instead gave Paulino $100,000 bond and home incarceration monitored with an ankle bracelet.</p>

<p>Prosecutors have appealed Carter’s decision. While they wait for a decision, Paulino is being held in the Manhattan Correctional Center.</p>

<p>Seeking to establish his pattern for violent conduct, prosecutors also noted he’d been convicted of disorderly conduct in April for barging into an acquaintance’s home with four others, carrying a wood bat and glass bottle. Paulino refused to leave and said he wanted to fight a woman’s boyfriend.</p>

<p>During a court hearing, Paulino’s lawyer, Jullian Harris, argued the video of the June 18 attack was not nearly as damning for Paulino as prosecutors made it out to be.</p>

<p>“What you see in the video is Mr. Paulino getting two licks in and walking away, while the other kids or other youth engage in the jumping of the complainant,” Harris said. “And then you see the complainant get up and walk away.
