<p class="mol-para-with-font">A wife has been charged with murder after allegedly shooting dead her estranged husband in the parking lot of a Walmart on Saturday while their three children looked on.<br />
According to a <a class="class" href="http://www.kalb.com/content/news/Man-shot-at-Alexandria-Walmart-on-Coliseum-Blvd---492770211.html" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">KALB</a> report, Kayla Jean Giles, 31, from Alexandria in Louisiana, arranged to meet Thomas Coutee Jr outside the local store for a child custody exchange. As the youngsters sat in her car she shot 30-year-old Coutee once in the chest at 11.15am.<br />
Coutee Jr died at the scene after attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.<br />
Giles has been charged with second-degree murder and was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center on $500,000 bond.<br />
On August 28, Coutee&#8217;s attorney had filed a motion for a new trial to decide who has custody of the daughter he shares with Giles, according to legal documents <a class="class" href="https://www.thetowntalk.com/story/news/2018/09/09/couple-fatal-walmart-shooting-were-headed-back-court/1248516002/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">seen by The Town Talk</a>. Coutee died on his daughter&#8217;s second birthday, which he also shares.</p>

In a March Facebook post about an event promoting career and technical education to high school students, he said teaching was his &#8220;true passion and career, and I am glad I chose this path in life.&#8221;</p>

<p class="mol-para-with-font">Thomas Coutee Jr was appealing that an August 20 ruling granting joint custody for the his daughter should be voided because Giles had a &#8216;history of domestic abuse&#8217; towards him. His initial petition for a divorce did not mention any alleged abuse and sought joint custody.<br />
However, Coutee filed one report with Rapides Parish Sheriff&#8217;s Office on May 28 alleging that six days before Giles slapped him while they were &#8216;exchanging custody of the kids&#8217;.<br />
Kayla Coutee died at the scene after attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.</p>

<p class="p-text">Coutee filed a complaint on May 28, alleging that Giles had slapped him while &#8220;they were exchanging custody of their kids.&#8221; The incident had happened on May 22, according to the report.<br />
Coutee was left with &#8216;redness on the left side of his jaw line&#8217;, according to a police report. He told the deputy he&#8217;d leaned into the car to give the kids a last hug before going to work when Giles slapped him on the left side of his face. Coutee then produced a photo to show the deputy, who observed &#8220;redness on the left side of his jaw line below his left ear,&#8221; it reads.<br />
Coutee also showed the deputy a screen shot of a text that Giles allegedly sent to a mutual friend. According to the report, the text read that she&#8217;d &#8220;knocked the sh*t out of Thomas. It felt good tho.&#8221;<br />
Coutee told the deputy that the two had been arguing about Giles&#8217; boyfriend, who he claimed was addicted to drugs, and about Giles&#8217; desire to move.<br />
On August 28, Coutee&#8217;s attorney had filed a motion for a new trial to decide who has custody of the daughter he shares with Giles.<br />
It is not clear who fathered Giles&#8217;s two other children. All three escaped were uninjured in the shooting and are not in the custody of family members.<br />
Witnesses said they a member of the public performed CPR on Coutee until firefighters and Louisiana State Police arrived. They continued attempting to revive him for 20 minutes but were unable to do so.<br />

A matrimonial agreement filed in May revealed they had a home in Pineville, five acres of land in Pineville, Texas, and two cars &#8211; a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado and a 2015 Dodge Durango.<br />
In the agreement Giles also agreed to revert to her maiden name and provide medical benefits for Coutee and their daughter through a medical program for military dependents.</div>
