<p>The gunman initially opened fire on three deputies who came to serve the warrant at around 4 p.m. He then shot four Florence police officers who arrived on the scene, including Carraway.<br />
The shooter was taken into custody has been identified as Fred Hopkins, a military veteran who received disability payments after being wounded in the Vietnam War.<br />
Hopkins, 74, is also a disbarred lawyer who has faced several charges in recent years, starting with a 2014 count of disorderly conduct.</p>

<div class="zn-body__paragraph speakable">Carraway was among seven law enforcement officers who were shot Wednesday evening during a standoff that began hours earlier when deputies attempted to execute a search warrant.</div>
<div class="zn-body__paragraph speakable">The 30-year veteran of the Florence Police Department was minutes away when he got the call to help fellow officers. He died later on his way to the hospital, city of Florence spokesperson John Wukela said.</div>
<div class="zn-body__paragraph">Speaking after the incident, a tearful Florence Police Chief, Allen Heidler, called Carraway a good friend and &#8220;the bravest police officer&#8221; he&#8217;s ever known.</div>

<div class="zn-body__paragraph">At the end of the standoff, a total of 12 patients were transported to two local trauma centers, including seven law enforcement officers and five civilians.Of the seven law enforcement officers transported, five were taken to McLeod Medical Center and two were taken to Carolinas Hospital Systems, Florence County EMS&#8217;s release says. Of the five civilians transported, four were taken to Carolinas Hospital Systems and one was taken to McLeod Medical Center.</p>
