<p class="mol-para-with-font">An Airbnb host in Los Angeles crashed through the window of a house he rented to a Boston couple while they slept before they barricaded themselves in the kitchen armed with a knife.<br />
Jaleesa Jackson and Chiedozie Uwandu were in Los Angeles for a beach holiday but were shocked when their Airbnb &#8216;super host&#8217; jumped through the window<br />
Jaleesa Jackson and Chiedozie Uwandu headed out of town in June for a week of rest and relaxation in Southern California. As medical residents in anesthesiologist at big, busy hospitals in Boston, Massachusetts Jackson and Uwandu live under constant stress, each putting in 14-hour shifts five or six days a week while regularly being on-call around the clock.<br />
It was the first day of their vacation, and Jackson, 29, and Uwandu, 28, who met at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland took the west coast swing in June anticipating a week of rest and relaxation in Southern California.<br />
After renting a small guesthouse for their vacation, the two medical residents traveled 3,000 miles for the beach break and were even greeted with a chilled bottle of wine on their arrival with a welcome note from their &#8216;super host&#8217; JJ.<br />
At about 5:30 on their first morning, Jackson awoke to loud banging at the door. As she stumbled out of bed, she heard a gruff, male voice shout, “I know you’re in there, Kevin!”<br />
Jackson opened the door just wide enough to see an obviously agitated man in full rant. She told him to go away and slammed the door.<br />
Jackson immediately dialed JJ for help. The phone rang on the other side of the door.<br />
“Yeah, that was me,” JJ told Jackson of the knocking incident. “Sorry about the confusion.<br />
Life’s too short for me to give you an explanation. Have a nice time in LA.”<br />
He hung up.<br />
The couple tried to brush off the bizarre behavior. “Maybe things are just different on the West Coast,” Jackson recalled thinking.<br />
But their worsening trip turned to a nightmare when their host jumped through the window, leaving broken glass across the floor, demanding &#8216;cleaning fees&#8217;.</p>

<div>Uwandu, who is 6ft tall, leapt out of bed and jumped on the man, pinning him down with a knee in his back &#8211; suspecting him to be a burglar.</div>
<p class="mol-para-with-font">But as the man broke free and fled the scene Uwandu realized it was the same host who rented the couple the house. Jackson called 911 and told them their Airbnb host attacked them.<br />
Police scrambled a helicopter and squad cars to the house and brought &#8216;JJ&#8217; back in handcuffs.<br />
While police were still at the scene and elderly lady arrived to ask who Jackson and Uwandu were as she rented the building to JJ, who was listing it on Airbnb without her knowledge.<br />
Uwandu told the <a class="class" href="https://www.bostonglobe.com/business/2018/10/08/airbnb-guesthouse-horrors/NJhq55qg0a2h6nO0aOsEJK/story.html" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Boston Globe</a>: &#8216;I had no idea what was happening. But I reacted like we were under attack.&#8217;</p>

<div class="mobile-gallery-icon">The bizarre events began on their first night when Jackson awoke to a loud banging at the door at around 5:30am in the morning.</div>
<div class="mobile-gallery-icon">She heard an agitated man shout, &#8216;I know you&#8217;re in there, Kevin&#8217;, and she opened the door ajar and told the man to go away before slamming it shut.<br />
When she rang JJ to tell him what happened he replied: &#8216;Yeah, that was me. Sorry about the confusion. Life&#8217;s too short for me to give you an explanation. Have a nice time in LA.&#8217;</div>
<div class="mobile-gallery-icon">Then the next morning the couple, were stunned when JJ came through the large window wearing a grey jumper with a hood covering his head.</div>
<div class="mobile-gallery-icon">The male intruder wore a gray sweat shirt with the hood pulled over his head. But when Jackson got a glimpse of his face, she recognized him: It was JJ, Airbnb’s vaunted “super host.”</div>
<div class="mobile-gallery-icon">As Uwandu loosened his grip to brush broken glass from his feet, which were bleeding, the man broke free and fled out the door.</div>
<div class="mobile-gallery-icon">Jackson told police on the phone they had been attacked by their Airbnb host and needed help right away.</div>
<div class="mobile-gallery-icon">“Your Airbnb host attacked you?” she remembers being asked in a skeptical voice.</div>
<div class="mobile-gallery-icon">Jackson and Uwandu armed themselves with the biggest knives they could find in the kitchen as they waited for help.</div>
<div class="mobile-gallery-icon">Shortly after, police help did arrive including a helicopter overhead, bathing, the courtyard between the guest house and the main house in blue light.</div>
<div class="mobile-gallery-icon">Police then brought in a man in handcuffs back to the property.</div>
<div class="mobile-gallery-icon">One of the officers told Jackson and Uwandu he had been babbling about Airbnb cleaning fees. “He told the police that Airbnb had ordered him to evict us, over cleaning fees,” Uwandu recalled.</div>
<div class="mobile-gallery-icon">About that time, an elderly woman came out of the main house. “Who are you?” she asked Uwandu and Jackson.</div>
<div class="mobile-gallery-icon">The woman said she was the owner and that JJ rented the guest house from her but that he wasn’t authorized to rent it to others. “But he rents it all the time,” Uwandu and Jackson told her. “Didn’t you notice all the people coming and going?”<br />
“I thought those were JJ’s friends visiting him,” she said.</div>
<div class="mobile-gallery-icon">Still shaking, Jackson called Airbnb in the middle of the night.</div>

They asked Airbnb for $5,000 compensation and the firm&#8217;s final offer was $2,500, plus five therapy sessions to &#8216;overcome the trauma&#8217;, which Jackson and Uwandu turned down.<br />
