<p>Middletown police have charged a city resident with murder after investigating a woman’s death Saturday in the Westlake Drive area.<br />
Cornel Myers, 35, is charged with murder and first-degree burglary, and in a separate case he is charged with first-degree trespassing, police said.<br />
He was arraigned in Superior Court in Middletown on Monday and is being held on a $2 million bond. Myers is scheduled to appear in court again on Sept. 25.<br />
An arrest warrant affidavit was ordered sealed for 14 days by a judge Monday.<br />
Police said they were withholding the name and address of the victim.<br />
In a press release, Middletown police Lt. Heather Desmond said Myers was found on the scene where the woman died. Officers initially responded there for a medical call, she said.<br />
“Myers was previously advised by police not to return to the residence as he was an unwanted person,” police said.<br />
Police and court documents listed Myers’ address as 190 Russett Lane, an apartment in the Westlake Drive area.</p>

<p>The yet to be officially to be identified victim, Danielle Fasciocco, just hours before she was found slain in her Middletown apartment on September 8, told a co-worker that she was thinking of getting a restraining order against an ex-boyfriend, Cornel Myers, 34, now charged with killing her, court records released Monday said.<br />
Police and court officials had said they cannot release the name of the Middletown woman killed Sept. 8 because of a state statute that requires them to protect the names of victims of other crimes.<br />
Public records show that a woman named Danielle Fasciocco died in a homicide at 144 Russet Lane, the same address where police served one of several search warrants in Myers’ case.<br />
While officials are not releasing the name, a combination of public records and other sources point to the likely victim as Danielle Fasciocco, a fifth-grade teacher at the Betances STEM Magnet School in Hartford.<br />
Fasciocco, 29, had been a teacher at the school since 2012, the Hartford school system said in a statement Wednesday afternoon.<br />
“We are heartbroken by the loss of a devoted Hartford Public Schools staff member, 5th grade teacher at Betances STEM, Ms. Danielle Fasciocco. She has been a valued member of the HPS team since 2012 and she will be missed. We offer our condolences to her family, friends, colleagues, students, and the entire school community at this difficult time,” the statement said.<br />
Now more than two weeks after her death, details of the case remain sealed even as the suspected killer is arraigned in court and officials continue to investigate the case as a homicide.<br />
Myers is charged with murder, first-degree burglary and first-degree trespassing, police said. He appeared in Superior Court in Middletown briefly Tuesday where the judge scheduled a probable cause hearing in his case for Oct. 31.<br />
He is being held on a $2 million bond. State records show he is being held at Northern Correctional Institution in Somers.<br />
Myers was arrested Sept. 8 on the trespassing charge after officers responded to what was initially reported as a medical call on Russet Lane in the Westlake Drive area of the city, police said.</p>

<p>The Office of the Chief State Medical Examiner said Fasciocco’s cause of death was “sharp force injury of neck and torso” and her manner of death was homicide.<br />
A judge on Sept. 21 granted the prosecutor’s request to seal search warrants and the arrest warrant affidavit. They will remain unavailable to the public until at least Oct. 8.<br />
Prosecutor Michael Gailor said in court Tuesday that he requested an extension of an initial two-week seal on the arrest warrant affidavit in the case because the investigation is still active.<br />
Details of the Middletown police case against Cornel Myers, 35, would be outlined in the affidavit. The records also said Middletown police officers were at Fasciocco‘s apartment door about a half-hour after she left the co-worker and other friends she was out with that night.<br />
A neighbor outside walking her dog called police about 10:30 p.m. to report an argument at the apartment, located in a complex off Westlake Drive.<br />
“The officers knocked on the victim’s apartment door, as well as others, and did not get any responses. They also checked the outside area and were unable to locate any other individuals involved in the incident,” an arrest warrant affidavit unsealed Monday in Superior Court in Middletown said.<br />
Less than six hours later, officers were back at the apartment, where they found Fasciocco around 3:30 a.m. in her bedroom with stab wounds to her neck and torso.<br />
Cornel Myers the ex-boyfriend who also lives in the apartment complex, faces charges of murder, first-degree burglary and first-degree trespassing, police said.<br />
It was Myers who called police early that Saturday morning. He told a 911 dispatcher that Fasciocco was not breathing and that it looked like her throat had been cut. Police said he also told them he’d found her that way when he let himself in to her apartment at 3 a.m.<br />
Officers responding to the scene found Myers with dried blood on his clothes and body. There was blood in the kitchen, a bloody knife in the bedroom and another bloody knife in a trash can, the arrest warrant affidavit said.The affidavit does not identify Fasciocco by name.
