The prosecutor of Mason’s case said it was an example of how sometimes ‘good people make bad decisions’. The court administrator claimed he had ‘no history of violence or desire to hurt anyone’.
Mason petitioned for an early release, including a letter to Aisha in which he apologized and asked for her forgiveness.
‘My responsibility was to love and protect you,’ the letter read. ‘Instead of loving, protecting and providing for you and our daughters, I have provided a terrible example, and exposed you to rage and violence.’
Aisha filed for divorce two days after the attack, citing gross neglect of duty and extreme cruelty. The divorce case was still pending at the time of her murder.
