<p class="mol-para-with-font">A suburban Chicago man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the hot tub drowning death of his wife, after police say he was caught on surveillance video partially closing the lid of the tub on Feb 9.<br />The Cook County medical examiner’s office ruled the death of 57-year-old Laura Huska a homicide. her husband Eric Huska, 58, of Wheeling, was arrested on Saturday night, accused of preventing his wife from getting out of the backyard hot tub.</p>

<p class="mol-para-with-font">According to Wheeling police, home security video showed the couple drinking in the hot tub at their home in the 300 block of Marion Court for some time before the distressed Laura unsuccessfully tried to get out. <br />It also showed Eric initially trying to help his wife, but then closing the tub’s lid over her head.<br />Deputy Chief Todd Wolff said the wife was seen in the video struggling against the cover. <br />Eric returned to the tub about 90 minutes later, opened the lid and found his wife floating in the water.</p>

<div>Police and paramedics were summoned to the Huskas&#8217; home at 6.45pm. Laura was rushed to Glenbrook Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. <br />The medical examiner found the victim&#8217;s manner of death to be drowning by entrapment. <br />Police have yet to determine a motive, but they say alcohol was a factor, reported <a class="class" href="https://www.dailyherald.com/news/20190212/wheeling-man-charged-in-wifes-hot-tub-death-police-say-he-closed-lid-on-her" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Chicago Daily Herald.</a> <br />Deputy Chief Wolff told Heavy that Laura Huska’s initial distress was caused by : “Alcohol and the heat of the hot tub, toxicology tests are pending, it will be weeks before those results are received.”</div>

<p>Huska appeared in court Tuesday and had his bail set at $10,000. <br />Police said the husband has no prior criminal history, and they have no record of service calls to the Huska family&#8217;s home in Wheeling, where the pair have lived since 2003. <br />According to her LinkedIn profile, Laura Huska worked as an information technology manager for a private firm.</p>

<p class="mol-para-with-font">Recent social media post reveal that Laura and her siblings had just lost their elderly mother a week prior to the hot tub incident. <br />Eric&#8217;s Facebook page, which has since been deleted, was filled with romantic photos of him and his wife, including in their backyard hot tub. <br />If convicted of the involuntary manslaughter charge, he could face three to 14 years in prison.</p>
