Police in the Dominican Republican said they recovered two bodies from a car crash who resemble a missing New York couple who vanished on vacation in the the Caribbean nation, a report said Tuesday.
The couple from Mount Vernon, NY, had been missing for nearly two weeks after mysteriously vanishing during a vacation in the Dominican Republic, according to reports.
The couple left US March 23. They were supposed to return March 27 but never did
Dominican police believe the couple may have gotten into a car accident on their way to the airport from their all-inclusive resort in the northeast section of the country, according to the Dominican newspaper Diario Libre.
Orlando Moore, 43, and his girlfriend Portia Ravenelle, 32, both of Mount Vernon, had been staying at the all-inclusive Grand Bahia Principe Cayacoa resort in the northeast town of Samana.
Authorities say the pair checked out of their hotel in Samana, but what happened to them next remains a mystery at this point.
Officials say they didn’t make the flight back to Newark, and there’s no record of them getting back to the U.S.
They never returned their rental car and never made it onto their flight home. Their cellphones are turned off, according to reports.

A woman matching Portia’s description had been found by the roadside with trauma to her body on the day they left the hotel. She was transported to a hospital from the area and died four days later, according to the report.
On Tuesday, police officials said fishermen reported finding a car in the water near where the couple would have been driving, according to the Diario Libre report.
Police recovered a decomposing body that may be Moore’s, according to the report.
Both bodies had no identities on them and police are working to determine if the fingerprints from the two bodies match the couple’s.
