The trial for the alleged paternity of Javier Sanchez-Santos was decided Thursday.
After two-year trial, sentencing was brief and took only one testimony, that of María Edite Santos, the former ballet dancer who met the singer in a nightclub on the Costa Brava in the summer of 1975.
For three decades since, former ballerina
Maria Edite Sanchez has been trying to prove that her 43-year-old son Javier Sanchez-Santos is the child resulting from the brief affair she had with the 75-year-old Grammy award-winning singer.

A Valencia court today issued a statement ruling that the judge ‘declares that Julio Iglesias is his [Sanchez’s] biological father’.

At a hearing last week, Sanchez’s attorneys – who brought the initial lawsuit – said that the ‘great physical resemblance between father and son’ is a clue towards their client’s true parentage.
In addition, they said it has been proved by DNA that he is not the son of Edite’s then husband, whose name was Sanchez.
Julio Iglesias never did a DNA test but Javier’s team two years ago obtained a match  from a male relative of the singer who showed a 99% match.
Edite’s attorney, Fernando Osuna, said the Prosecutor’s Office, which at the beginning of the proceedings was against the reopening of the case, in the end strengthened the defense claim of paternity, when “He has invoked a sentence of the Supreme Court in a similar case decided in 2017, in which the father refused to be tested for DNA, and the court penalized him  for that refusal.”

Adding,” you are free not to be proof, but stick to the consequence, and that makes you a father as long as there are signs. ” you are free to refuse providing proof, but stick to the consequence, and that makes you a father as long as there are signs. ”

He has eight other children. Three were born in his marriage to Isabel Preysler and five with his wife Miranda Rijnsburger.
Leaving the courtroom last week, a smiling Edite called on Iglesias to have the DNA test and acknowledge ‘a wonderful son I am very proud of’.
If Iglesias disputes the ruling, the case could be sent to the European Court of Human Rights.

The paternity suit has lasted decades. Sanchez won a court ruling in his favor as far back as 1992, declaring that Iglesias was his biological father.
During the re-trial Edite’s attorneys brought evidence that Javier was born “at just nine months” of the alleged sexual relations that María Edite had with the singer in Girona 44 years ago, a fact neither party has disputed.
The plaintiff’s team also pointed to the
“the great physical resemblance between father and son”.
Furthermore, was
“The unjustified refusal of Julio Iglesias to get the DNA test”, as well as the fact that it has been demonstrated through a genetic analysis that their client is not the son of the ex-husband of María Edite’s ex-husband, Sánchez.
