&#8216;I&#8217;m gonna stop it&#8230; you&#8217;re getting hit too much&#8217;, McGirt was heard telling his fighter at the end of the 11th round, before he shook his head. &#8216;Please, Max, let me do this,&#8217; McGirt added before ignoring his fighter&#8217;s wishes and telling referees it was over.<br />

The trainer then gave a ringside interview in the belief that he had saved the young fighter&#8217;s life, before Dadashev collapsed and vomited on his way to the locker room and was rushed to hospital.<br />
Doctors placed Dadashev in a medically induced coma and removed the right side of his skull to relieve swelling caused by the haematoma [brain bleed], but their efforts ultimately failed and he was pronounced dead Tuesday, four days after the fight.</p>

Dadashev&#8217;s wife, Elizaveta Apushkina, who had flown to be at his side after the bout, led tributes on Wednesday, saying: &#8216;My love! You are always in my heart, my soul is tearing apart from pain without you!</p>

McGirt led the tributes Tuesday, saying he was shocked at the news of Dadshev&#8217;s passing. &#8216;It just makes you realize what type of sport we&#8217;re in, man,&#8217; he said.<br />
&#8216;He did everything right in training, no problems, no nothing.<br />
&#8216;My mind is like really running crazy right now. Like, what could I have done differently? But at the end of the day, everything was fine [in training].<br />
&#8216;He seemed OK, he was ready, but it&#8217;s the sport that we&#8217;re in. It just takes one punch, man.&#8217;<br />
Speaking about his decision to end the fight, he said his mind was already made up by the end of the 11th and he was only asking Max out of politeness.<br />
&#8216;I wasn&#8217;t going to let him go out there,&#8217; he said.<br />
He praised the St. Petersburg fighter, who was previously undefeated, for his dedication to boxing and claimed he was a &#8216;great guy.&#8217;<br />
He added: &#8216;He was a trainer&#8217;s dream. If I had two more guys like him, I wouldn&#8217;t need anybody else because he was truly dedicated to the sport.&#8217;</p>

Dadeshev had struggled to walk out of the ring and collapsed in front of spectators before leaving the arena. His condition rapidly deteriorated and he started to vomit and lose consciousness.<br />
He was rushed to hospital in Washington where it was discovered that he<span style="color: var(--color-text);"> had suffered extensive bleeding and was was said to be showing signs of severe brain damage.<br />
Part of his skull was removed to relieve swelling in his brain during emergency surgery.<br />

The fighter shook his head to indicate he did not want the fight stopped, but McGirt kept at it: &#8216;Please, Max, please. Let me do this. OK? OK? Look at me. Please.&#8217;<br />
Dadashev again shook his head McGirt said: &#8216;If I don&#8217;t, the referee&#8217;s gonna do it. C&#8217;mon, Max. Please.&#8217;</p>

The Russian Boxing Federation says it has opened an investigation into the death of Dadashev.<br />
Dadashev, who is married with a son, was considered one of the sport&#8217;s rising stars before Friday&#8217;s fight. His wife, Elizaveta Apushkina, rushed from St Petersburg to be by her husband&#8217;s side.</p>
