<p class="mol-para-with-font">Patrick Crusius is believed to be the man who opened fire on the Walmart at the Cielo Vista Mall, a popular shopping destination for people both sides of the US-Mexico border, on Saturday afternoon.<br />
Less than 20 minutes before the shooting, Crusius allegedly uploaded a twisted and seething anti-immigrant manifesto to an online forum outlining his sickening motives.<br />
The 2,300-word document titled &#8216;The Inconvenient Truth&#8217;, attributed to the author P._Crusius on one website, opens with the declaration: &#8216;This attack is a response to the Hispanic invasion of Texas. They are the instigators, not me. I am simply defending my country from cultural and ethnic replacement brought on by an invasion.&#8217;</p>

At the end of the document he writes that he expects the media to blame President Donald Trump and his rhetoric for the attack, noting: &#8216;This is not the case.&#8217;<br />
&#8216;My ideology has not changed for several years. My opinions&#8230; predate Trump and his campaign for president,&#8217; he writes.<br />
Crusius also wrote that he expected to be killed in a confrontation with police or with one of the &#8216;invaders&#8217;, and that he would rather die than be taken into custody.</p>

The mother fell on top of her son as she was shot. The boy is being treated in a hospital.<br />
&#8216;From the baby&#8217;s injuries, they said that more than likely my sister was trying to shield him,&#8217; Jamrowski said.<br />
&#8216;So when she got shot she was holding him and she fell on him, so that&#8217;s why he broke some of his bones.<br />
&#8216;He pretty much lived because she gave her life.&#8217;<br />
Jamrowski said she fears her brother-in-law Andre Anchondo was also among the dead because she hasn&#8217;t heard from him since the attack.</p>

<p class="mol-para-with-font">Crusius reportedly grew up 650 miles east of the shooting site in Allen, a wealthy and mostly-white suburb of Dallas. Police were seem swarming a home believed to belong to him in the wake of the shooting.<br />
A former neighbor of Crusius, Leigh Ann Locascio, said he was &#8216;very much a loner, very stand-offish&#8217; and &#8216;didn&#8217;t interact a whole lot with anyone&#8217;, according to the Los Angeles Times.<br />
Locascio, whose son Tony used to walk to school with Crusius and his sister, said the alleged shooter typically walked ahead or behind them, uninterested in interacting.<br />
&#8216;He wouldn&#8217;t talk to people. No one really knew him,&#8217; Tony Locascio said. He recalled that Crusius liked animals and kept pet snakes.<br />
Crusius briefly attended Liberty High School in Frisco and went on to graduate from Plano Senior High School. He enrolled at Collin College, a community college in McKinney, in 2017.<br />
Former classmate Jacob Wilson said Crusius was &#8216;very strong-minded&#8217; during high school and would try to &#8216;take charge&#8217; of other students, but many refused to work with him because he was &#8216;irritable and had a short temper&#8217;.<br />
Daniel Heo of Plano, Texas, who attended Beverly Elementary School with Crusius had a very different recollection of the alleged shooter.<br />
Heo said he remembers playing basketball and soccer with Crusius during recess, but they fell out of touch after elementary school.<br />
He told The Times he hadn&#8217;t thought about Crusius in years until a friend texted him about the El Paso shooting and said his former classmate was a suspect.<br />
&#8216;I&#8217;m shocked. I remember him being a nice kid,&#8217; Heo said.</p>

At least three other businesses in the area were placed on lock down as a result of the shooting.<br />
Witness Miguel Rodriguez said the gunman, &#8216;started shooting everyone, aisle by aisle, with rage.&#8217;<br />
Witnesses told CBS 4 News they believe the suspect only stopped shooting because he ran out of ammunition.<br />
Video posted on Twitter showed customers at one department store being evacuated with their hands up.<br />
&#8216;Hands in the air!&#8217; an officer can be heard shouting in the footage.<br />
Beto O&#8217;Rourke, the Democratic presidential candidate and former U.S. congressman who represented El Paso, tweeted: &#8216;Truly heartbreaking. Stay safe, El Paso.<br />
&#8216;Please follow all directions of emergency personnel as we continue to get more updates.&#8217;<br />
After his tweet, O’Rourke said he was distraught by the news of the mass-shooting in his hometown.<br />
An emotional O’Rourke told reporters on Saturday in Las Vegas that he had spoken by phone to El Paso Mayor Dee Margo, the city’s sheriff and U.S. Rep. <p class="mol-para-with-font">A Walmart employee told KTSM that she was working by the self-checkout when the first gunshots rang out.<br />
The employee, named Leslie, said she initially thought the loud bang was caused by boxes being dropped.<br />
&#8216;I thought it was just like loud boxes being dropped or something, until they got closer and closer,&#8217; she said. &#8216;That’s when I looked at my co-worker, and we looked at each other like shocked and scared.&#8217;<br />
&#8216;I got all the people that I could, I even found a little girl that was missing from her parents, and I got her, too. I tried to get as many people as I could out,&#8217; she said.<br />

<p class="mol-para-with-font">Thygesen says the shooting occurred on Walmart&#8217;s property and in the Walmart parking lot.<br />
The mall was put on lockdown as a result of the shooting, Thygesen said, but there is said to be no ongoing threat to the public at this time.<br />
Walmart issued a statement on its Twitter account which read: &#8216;We&#8217;re in shock over the tragic events at Cielo Vista Mall in El Paso, where store 2201 &#038; club 6502 are located.<br />
&#8216;We’re praying for the victims, the community &#038; our associates, as well as the first responders.<br />
&#8216;We’re working closely with law enforcement &#038; will update as appropriate.&#8217;</p>
