Witnesses said that the man routinely followed the woman and her twin sons from where they were staying at the Hope Haven Gospel Mission shelter in Lewiston to the local library, Dunkin&#8217; and even bus stops.<br />
Flick had met the woman at the shelter while she was waiting on an apartment in Farmington. <span style="color: var(--color-text);"> </span></p>

<p class="mol-para-with-font">Flick declined to address the courtroom, shaking his head and saying &#8216;nah&#8217; when the judge asked him if he had anything to say, the <a class="class" href="https://www.sunjournal.com/2019/08/09/albert-flick-to-life-in-prison-for-murder-of-kim-dobbie/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Sun Journal</a> reported.<br />
A jury only took 40 minutes to convict Flick and find him guilty for the murder of the mother.<span style="color: var(--color-text);"> </span></p>

<p><span style="color: var(--color-text);">Flick had a long history of violence against women and was sentenced to prison for stabbing his wife, Sandra Flick, 14 times after she served him with divorce papers in 1979. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the killing.<br />
</span><span style="color: var(--color-text);">A</span>fter his release from prison in 2010, Flick was charged with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and assault with a knife, once again in Portland, and was sentenced to two years in prison.<br />
<span style="color: var(--color-text);">And in 2014, he was charged in Portland with criminal threatening, but that charge was dismissed as part of a deal in which he pleaded to a lesser charge.<br />
</span><span style="color: var(--color-text);">He moved to Lewiston in June 2014, about the time that last case was being prosecuted.<br />
</span><span style="color: var(--color-text);">A judge who sentenced him for assaulting another woman said in 2010 that Flick would no longer represent a threat because of age by the time of his release in 2014. The judge disregarded the recommendation of the prosecutor and probation officer for a longer sentence.</span><span style="color: var(--color-text);"><br />

<p class="mol-para-with-font">During Flick&#8217;s trial last month, prosecutors told the jury that Flick took action because Dobbie was planning to move away.<br />
&#8216;The obsession became &#8216;If I can&#8217;t have her, I will kill her,&#8217; and that&#8217;s exactly what he did,&#8217; Assistant Attorney General Bud Ellis said.</p>

<p><span style="color: var(--color-text);">Flick’s attorney, Allan Lobozzo, had argued Friday for a 25-year prison term, citing Flick’s declining health and his history as a child growing up in a large family with an abusive father.</span><br />
Lobozzo acknowledged that 25 years would certainly be a life sentence for the elderly Flick, but asked the court to consider that he’d had no substance abuse issues and was gainfully employed for most of his life.<br />

In delivering the sentence, while looking directly at Dobbie’s friends in the courtroom, Justice Kennedy said, “There is simply no way for us to understand the grief that her family and friends have suffered” because of Flick’s crime, which took away a woman who clearly was a “loving and protective mother to her boys.”<br />
But, she said, “I hope that the pall cast by this despicable event will pass” and Dobbie’s friends and family will focus on her goodness.<br />
Susan Dobbie, the victim&#8217;s mother, is in the process of adopting the twins. She and Dobbie&#8217;s sibling plan to provide a home for the boys in Massachusetts.</p>
