Yvonne Serrano was arrested Saturday in connection with the death of Daniela Tabares Maya, who was found dead outside Serrano’s home with an apparent gunshot wound to the head, according to a Coral Springs Police Department affidavit.<br />
Police said Serrano, 51, called 911 early Saturday and said an “unknown” body and an “unknown vehicle&#8221; were outside her Coral Springs residence. Upon arriving at the scene, authorities found Maya, 21, dead with a gunshot wound to her forehead.<br />
Serrano and Maya were members of the same gym and had attended a group function on Friday night, according to the affidavit. They did not sit together but attended the same showing of the movie “21 Bridges” and later went to a House of Beer venue and were “observed on video conversing, laughing, and drinking for several hours,” police said.</p>

<p>Police said in the affidavit that Serrano originally said she woke up in her own bed, but later changed her story and said she woke up inside the victim’s car to find Maya lying on the driveway. She claimed she put her hand on her chest and checked for vital signs.<br />
Serrano said she then went inside and washed her tank top because it had blood on it, the affidavit states, and placed a gun from her purse onto a chair inside the bedroom. Police found the gun underneath some pillows on a chair as they searched the home.<br />
Cops say Serrano also claimed to have deleted recent files from her Ring Doorbell app, which acts as a security camera.<br />
<span style="color: var(--color-text);">Serrano is charged with second-degree murder and tampering with evidence.<br />
Police say they had probable cause to make the arrest due to “the defendant’s lies and inconsistent statements coupled with video evidence and the listed bloodied firearm” inside her home.<br />
Maya’s Facebook page identifies her as a Cali, Colombian native who went to Coral Springs Taravella High School.<br />
