Investigators said Sam’s four-year-old son was inside her apartment when she was abducted by Wallace, who is described as being an acquaintance of Sam.<br />
Police later found the boy traumatized in his mother’s bed after Sam’s body was identified. ‘He heard his mama screaming,’ St John the Baptist Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre told Nola.com.<br />
Police said Wallace stuffed Sam in the trunk of her own car during the violent abduction. A short time later, she jumped from the trunk of the moving vehicle – but she was unable to escape her attacker, who police say chased her down and shot her once in the forehead.<br />
Sam reportedly suffered road rash on her knees, legs and elbows during her failed attempt to flee.</p>

<p>Corrie Wallace, known to be an acquaintance of Sam, allegedly kidnapped her, shoved her in the trunk of her own car and drove off before shooting her in the head.<br />
‘She tried to run for her life,’ Sheriff Tregre said.<br />
‘We believe he shot and killed her right there on Belle Terre Boulevard.’ After Wallace allegedly killed Sam, he crashed her car into a metal guard rail in front of a car dealership and abandoned the vehicle.<br />
D<span style="color: var(--color-text);">eputies received a call around 3:30 a.m. Saturday stating that it appeared a pedestrian was the victim of a hit and run in the 400 block of Belle Terre Boulevard in Laplace.<br />
</span><span style="color: var(--color-text);">When deputies arrived at the scene, they found a vehicle crashed into a guardrail and a nude woman, who was later identified as Sam, unresponsive in a nearby parking lot with a gunshot wound to the head.<br />
</span><span style="color: var(--color-text);">She was later pronounced dead at the scene by the St. John the Baptist Parish Coroner’s Office.<br />
</span><span style="color: var(--color-text);">Surveillance video from a nearby business helped deputies develop Wallace as a suspect in the crime.</span></p>

<p>Investigators learned that Wallace was inside of Sam’s apartment along with her 4-year-old son where an assault occurred. After the assault, Wallace forced Sam from her apartment and put her in the trunk of her vehicle.<br />
<span style="color: var(--color-text);">While driving towards Belle Terre Blvd., Wallace crashed the vehicle and Sam managed to escape the trunk. Sam then ran to a nearby parking lot where Wallace chased her down and shot her before fleeing the scene on foot.<br />
</span><span style="color: var(--color-text);">Wallace later turned himself in and confessed to the crime.</span></p>

<p>Tregre said officers responding to Sam’s apartment discovered someone had doused the home in bleach in an attempt to destroy evidence.<br />
The gun believed to have been used to kill Sam was subsequently found in a nearby canal, police said.<br />
Tregre said Wallace is facing charges including first-degree murder.<br />
Sam’s son who was left unharmed, is reportedly staying with relatives.</p>
