<div>A 36-year-old woman in Minnesota has pled guilty to murdering her boyfriend by stabbing him through the heart in their Minneapolis apartment.<br />
Zara Jo Case, admitted to second-degree murder in the death of Joseph &#8216;Moochie&#8217; McRunnel, 39, on February 15 at their home in the Como area of Minneapolis.<br />
Case allegedly plunged a knife into her boyfriend&#8217;s heart at the apartment they shared near the University of Minnesota.<br />
Police were called to their home at around 5.25am by a man in a nearby apartment who barricaded his door out of fear to stop Case from breaking in.<br />
<span style="color: var(--color-text);">Officers found Case &#8216;extremely intoxicated&#8217; and sent her back to her apartment.<br />
</span><span style="color: var(--color-text);">But the incident was far from over. Police were called out a further two times.<br />
</span><span style="color: var(--color-text);">Police spoke with a witness who said Case had already broken her boyfriend&#8217;s window and she was trying to force her way into his home.</span></div>

<p><span style="color: var(--color-text);">When they attended the home for the third time, Case was standing outside screaming McRunnel had stabbed himself.</span></p>

<p class="mol-para-with-font"><span style="color: var(--color-text);">Officers found him on the floor of his apartment.<br />
</span><span style="color: var(--color-text);">The Hennepin County Medical Examiner&#8217;s Office determined the knife that killed him had traveled more than four inches into his chest and piercing his right ventricle.<br />
</span>During an interview with police, case said: &#8216;I stabbed him. That&#8217;s all there is to it. We were f****** s***faced, angry. He accidentally got stabbed and now he&#8217;s dead. I am going to prison forever.&#8217;<br />
Case has been jailed until her sentencing on June 9.<br />
McRunnel&#8217;s parents, friends and neighbors have described him as a &#8216;calm, passive person&#8217;, but say Case was &#8216;volatile and confrontational when high or drunk,&#8217; according to a police report seen by the <a class="class" href="https://www.startribune.com/woman-admits-to-fatally-stabbing-boyfriend-in-heart-at-their-home-near-u/570350291/?refresh=true" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener">Star Tribune.</a><br />
<span style="color: var(--color-text);">According to the complaint and a search warrant affidavit, the atmosphere in the apartment was very volatile. </span><span style="color: var(--color-text);">Police were called to the address about 5:25 a.m. by a man in a different apartment who said Case broke his window, and he said he moved his refrigerator against the door to keep the intoxicated woman from breaking in.<br />
</span><span style="color: var(--color-text);">Officers located Case, who was naked from the waist down and “extremely intoxicated,” and sent her back to her apartment.<br />
</span><span style="color: var(--color-text);">The neighbor called again about 5:45 a.m., to report that Case was trying to get in his apartment.However, with McRunnel’s help, Case was led back to their apartment.<br />
</span><span style="color: var(--color-text);">The third call came at 6:06 a.m., this time with a report that Case was on the street corner and screaming that McRunnel had stabbed himself.<br />
</span><span style="color: var(--color-text);">Officers found McRunnel on the floor in his apartment. He was stabbed in the chest and had bite marks on his right shoulder and arm, as well as cuts to his abdomen.<br />
</span><span style="color: var(--color-text);">McRunnel seemed to police to be unaware that he had been stabbed, saying, “It’s just a tattoo … I just touched myself.”<br />
</span><span style="color: var(--color-text);">He also said he didn’t know who stabbed him.</span></p>

<p class="mol-para-with-font"><span style="color: var(--color-text);">Police saw broken glass at the scene and initially thought McRunnel had cut himself. First responders did not initially suspect that the wound was potentially fatal.<br />
</span><span style="color: var(--color-text);">McRunnel was taken to hospital where he died from his wounds.<br />
</span><span style="color: var(--color-text);">The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office stated that the knife traveled more than four inches into his chest and pierced his right ventricle.<br />
</span><span style="color: var(--color-text);">Police found a large kitchen knife with blood on it on the bedroom floor.<br />
</span><span style="color: var(--color-text);">Case later told officers that she and McRunnel had split a liter of whiskey and that she </span><span style="color: var(--color-text);">recalled the events of the evening.<br />
</span><span style="color: var(--color-text);">Case also told police that she had recently left a substance abuse rehabilitation program after becoming addicted to methamphetamine and alcohol.<br />
</span>Her criminal history includes convictions for drunken driving and obstructing police and multiple counts of drinking in public.</p>
