Wolfe City police officer, Shaun David Lucas, was taken into custody on Monday and charged with murder in connection to the shooting death of an unarmed ‘unthreatening’ black man

Lucas, 22, on Saturday reportedly shot dead Jonathan Price a black city worker, 31, described by locals as ‘pillar of the community’

Witnesses said Price was attempting to break up a domestic violence incident between a man and a woman inside an Exxon gas station in Wolfe City

Lucas shot Price as he was walked way from trying to break up a gas station fight between the man and woman

Witnesses said when Price approached the brawling couple, the man reportedly assaulted him and the altercation spilled outside, and police arrived shortly afterwards

Price put his hands up and attempted to explain to police what had happened but was then tasered before being shot multiple times in the chest and in the back, according to witnesses

Lucas who left the scene immediately after the shooting was immediately placed on administrative leave

On Monday he was arrested and charged with murder

Within hours of his arrest, Lucas posted his $1million bond, officials said

A police officer in the city of Wolfe, Texas has been arrested and charged with murder in connection to the shooting death of a 31-year-old employee of the city ‘s Works Department who was ‘tasered and shot three times’ while walking away after trying to break up a domestic violence situation between parties unrelated to him at a gas station, in the small town,70 miles northeast of Dallas.
Witnesses, friends and family of Jonathan Price, said he was trying to intervene in a domestic violence situation before he was killed at the Kwik Check gas station at 103 Santa Fe Street, on Saturday before an officer responding to the reported altercation arrived on the scene and shot him dead as he tried to explain the situation.

Wolfe City police officer Shaun David Lucas, 22, was taken into custody over the fatal shooting of Jonathan Price, who was intervening when he saw a man and woman brawling inside an Exxon gas station in Wolfe City , [pop. 1500], on Saturday at 8.30pm just moments before he was shot. 

Philadelphia-based civil rights lawyer, Lee Merritt, who is representing Price’s family, told CBS that the arrest of Lucas ‘is the first step’.
‘This man is dangerous and should not be out on bond. The family was relieved to hear of his arrest and are looking forward to his conviction,’ Merritt added. 
Price’s family members said their the victim approached the fighting couple but was immediately assaulted by the man.  Price tried to break up the fight inside the store, but the altercation spilled outside, according to witness accounts.
The circumstances surrounding Lucas’ ultimate decision to use deadly force is now under investigation.
The Texas Rangers  who have the responsibility for investigating the shooting, on Monday night said : ‘ The preliminary investigation indicates that the actions of Officer Lucas were not objectionably reasonable.  
‘The Texas Rangers have charged Officer Lucas with the offense of Murder and booked him into the Hunt County Jail.’
Merritt said he’s been informed that when police arrived at the scene, Price raised his hands and attempted to inform the officers exactly what had happened. Instead he was tasered and shot multiple times, by the officer
The Texas Department of Public Safety said Lucas tried to detain Price, who ‘resisted in a non-threatening posture and began walking away’.

‘Police fired tasers at him and when his body convulsed from the electrical current, they “perceived a threat” and shot him to death,’ Merritt said, adding that nobody else was harmed. 
Merritt said he is working with the family to ‘get justice’ for Price, who he described as a ‘hometown hero’.
Lucas was placed on administrative leave immediately after the shooting.
On Monday he was arrested for murder and booked into the Hunt County Jail, but was later transferred to the Rockwall County Jail.
Within hours of his arrest, Lucas posted his $1million bond. 
Monday afternoon, Price’s family said there is video proof that the shooting was a criminal act and they want justice.
“The chief saw the video and told me he wasn’t happy with what he saw,” their attorney Lee Merritt said.
The victim’s father, Junior Price on Monday, said “I want to see what the man gets… what he has coming to him for killing my son.”
