<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A physician in Louisiana has been arrested by police in Baton Rouge after he shouted racial epitaphs and punched a female college student in what authorities believe was a racially motivated attack, police said.<br>Shane McKinney, 54, a pediatrician at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital, in East Baton Rouge was arrested Wednesday on a charge of simple battery in connection with the alleged assault near the Louisiana State University Lakes in Baton Rouge, <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.theadvocate.com/baton_rouge/news/crime_police/article_baa4125e-2483-11eb-abab-efe96c1c129a.html" target="_blank">the Advocate</a> reported.<br>Police said the Southern University student-athlete had been walking Monday evening near Dalrymple Drive when the assailant punched her in the chest and shouted the N-word at her.<br>The attacker ran away, but authorities released a photo of him wearing a University of Alabama shirt and sunglasses.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A tip sent into Crime Stoppers led authorities to McKinney, who was interviewed and booked at East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.<br>Our Lady of the Lake hospital system confirmed in an email to employees that one of its physicians had been “identified as the suspect in an alleged racially motivated attack that surfaced online and in the media,” the Advocate reported.<br>“At Our Lady of the Lake, we do not tolerate hate, discrimination, or violence by any member of our organization toward another person,” CEO Scott Wester wrote. “To be very clear, there are no excuses and no exceptions to respect one another and our community.”<br>The employee, later confirmed to be Shane McKinney, has been placed on leave the hospital said according to newspaper reports.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">McKinney is a pediatric emergency medicine doctor at Our Lady of the Lake Children&#8217;s Hospital. <br>The hospital system removed his biography and other information about him from its website sometime Wednesday, several hours before confirming he was the subject of both criminal and administrative investigations. ;<br>McKinney was booked on a $10,000 bond and was released late Wednesday night.</p>
